Published

Hi everybody.

My name is Ken. I just found out I passed my NCLEX and can finally call myself an RN. I got hired in the Labor and Delivery Unit in California. I am excited to start my job.

Its good that more males are in the nursing field right now!

Just thought I'd introduce myself!

Hi Ken, welcome to the world of Male RNs! :)

Congrats!

Specializes in Trauma/ED.

We have one male nurse who works on pediatrics but does float over to Mother/Baby side of Labor and Delivery, but he was the only one I ever heard of besides you.

What made u chose the one field (in my opinion) where most of us tend to be scared of?

it is a indescribable feeling when you witness a new life entering this world. I have always been fascinated in childbirth because I have alot of respect for what women have to go through. Ever since my capston in L&D I have not had any trouble with helping both the women and the partner through the process. Most family asks me why i chose this field that barely any men decide to pursue....i tell them the same thing everytime.. and they always give me respect for it. if you can .. please check out the website I did for my final senior project.

I decided to create this topic because I have had experiences where the partner was not really invovled in the care of their laboring partner.

there is a survey at the end. please give me feedback if posible.

Great site! I wish I would have read that before my kids were born maybe I would done something else besides sit in the corner and ball while my now wife pushed for 4 hrs with my first child.

I actually enjoyed my OB time the Mother's I had experience with were great and I couldn't assist with a birth without tearing up.
