New LPN students to start soon !! Come share your experiences :)

Published

I am starting in September I figured it would be nice to start a thread where all of us new students could come and and share our experiences/help eachother out as we are on our way to be nurses :)

hi.

Im a canadian student, hope you dont mind if I join? I checked out the Canadian threads - not to rivetting over there lol

Single mom of 4 kids, going to my RPN (LPN for you guys) I am working as a PSW in outreach (your version of CNA)

REALLY excited and nervous, they pulled me in off that wait list, now Im trying to get my government funding and day care etc all arranged.

Congrats and welcome :) mom of 4 too here....and oh yes, the ongoing 'daycare' debacle. That has been my biggest challenge with NS thus far. Where I live, daycare providers are usually paid $10 per hour and up! with 3 kids needing daycare while I am in school, that is highway robbery.

Warmly,

B2BS

hi all!!! i just want to congratulate all of you future LPN students. :yeah: I would have been graduating in about 2 weeks, but due to unfortunate circumstances I had totake a LOA, but extremely happy to be returning in January. Anyhooo, I just wanted to give all of you future PN students a dash optimism. You are all going to do just fabulous!! And for all that have a handful at home, (children, work, etc) please look at things this way.... Im absolutely sure that when you applied to ns, you had been asked about current lifestyle. If for one minute, your school thought that you had too much going on at home, they would never, in a million years, would have accepted you!! YOU CAN DO THIS....EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU!!! Best of luck to all.

Such inspiring stories! especially from the more "mature" amongst us who are finding our way back to nursing after taking detours (for whatever reasons).

I too am heading back to school after more than 30 years. I received a BS in crop science and worked as an agronomist for over 20 yrs, until I decided that I needed to make room for younger, more energetic and talented aggies who had their futures in front of them.

I went to beauty school and became an esthetician. That was 12 yrs ago and since then have worked in a derm practice. I currently own my own shop. Now I'm wanting to get a nursing certificate in order to do injectables (botox, restylane, juvederm) and other results-oriented procedures under the wing of a board certified plastic surgeon.

My last year in college, way back in '75-'76, I ran out of money/scholarships and needed a job w/flexible hours to pay for school; so I took a few weeks one summer and got my CNA and did that for 9 months. I loved it and thought - had I done the work sooner in my education, I probably would've chosen nursing for my degree instead of agronomy.

Oh well, water under the bridge. Fast forward to 2009 and I am ready to start school in January. CA law requires that all pre-reqs be taken within 5 yrs; so I have to do them all over again. A&P, nutrition, psych. Boo Hiss - but that's okay.

Luckily, I love school and learning. 2010 is gonna be tough. DH and I have had some serious talks about the pressures of next year (he is running for re-election for a local office).

But if I've learned anything in life, I know that I can and will forge forward. I can endure anything for one year!

So I'll be back to revisit this site during the next 18 months to gather strength and inspiration from you ladies and gents.

congrats to everyone getting ready to start. i had posted a couple of months ago that i would be starting in august, but due to gas prices rising and driving a suv 200 miles a day for school, my cna class starting later than suposed to i had to withdrawl yesterday. so i am going to take more classes in the fall at the school i've been going to to get closer to my RN and apply at another LPN school that is just 20 miles from my house for the spring 2010 semester. i wish everyone of you luck. butterfly

I just got done registering for my A.A.S. in PN and I am so excited....but extremely nervous! For my first sememster I am taking Anatomy and Pysiology (however you spell it), Pre-College Algebra, Microbiology, Ethics, and one other I think, for a total of 16 credits my first semester. It is going to be very hard I'm sure, but I am really excited! I plan on working part time while in school as a CNA. I start on Aug 24th and hopefully will only be going for 3 semesters....I have some transfer credits, so hopefully I will be done after fall 2010. Good luck to all you guys! A new beginning! :nurse:

Hi everyone! I am starting an LPN program in August. I am beyond excited. I plan to bridge to RN after this. I am not 100% sure on my work situation though as I work full time now and have two young kiddos at home, so I am not sure that I am going to work full time. These decisions are stressful!

Good luck to everyone!

I also start in August in the same program as the above poster. I work full-time right now as a surgical tech. And I also am a single mother of a toddler. So I'm not sure if I am going to just go back to working part-time hours while in school or not. I do have the option of living with my parents till I'm done with the program. We will see what happens.

My goal is to bridge to RN and work in a psych hospital. I was originally going to school for my Psychology degree but I realized how much I love the medical field after working at my current job. I still love the psych field however and would love to incorporate both. I'm also very interested in working in the OR or in Labor and Delivery.

Congrats to everyone for starting the first step to the rest and best of your life! :yeah:

Specializes in geriatric and opthalmalogy,.

Congrats thegiver, I wish you all the luck in the world. We can all make it if we work hard and don't give up on our dreams. I'm glad you joined us on this thread over here in the US.

Im starting friday at Lincoln Tech in Mt. Laurel. Im starting to get nervous..any advice?

Hello everyone! I am starting at the Dallas Nursing Institute in August - night program. I am SOOOO excited! I have a decent job now, but I have always wanted to be a nurse, plus I'm tired of sitting in a cubicle every day!

Anyone else starting DNI in August? Is anyone attending that has any feedback or information?
