I am starting in September I figured it would be nice to start a thread where all of us new students could come and and share our experiences/help eachother out as we are on our way to be nurses :)
I am very excited for getting to begin your dream! Congratulations! I am so excited to start this journey myself! My son (age 11) is also cheering me on! I am a single mom myself, although, you all have gone through a lot more than I have. But, those trials have made you all stronger and will be better nurses for having come through them. God's continued blessings on us all is my prayer...
richquis, congratulations! I wouldn't say that what we have gone through is any more traumati or difficult than your own trials and hardships. I have learned that each life is hard and challenging in its own way. So pat yourself on the back. You're a strong woman, and you'll make a terrific nurse.
Isn't it amazing how life can change, blessed2bestressed? I had really given up on having the kind of life I wanted. It's kind of a long, complicated story. I won't bore anyone with the details. I was a very, very different woman 2 years ago. Now I feel like I'm 25, and the whole world is open to me. Your strength is an inspiration to me.

My husband and I start August 4th, we've been going through all the beginning steps (entrance interview, physical, shots..ect) and I'll be glad when it's all over!! At our interview they gave us "homework" to learn all the bones and 12 pages of misc stuff to learn such as the different systems, equivilents, medical terminology and we've been working on those like crazy too.
Some of these stories are bringing me to tears!! I just got accepted to nursing school after a grueling 3 month selection process!! I'm looking forward to finally having a CAREER! I unfortunately have to quit my decent job in order to attend, but I think it'll be worth it. Luckily, I have the support of my wonderful husband, who believes in me even when I don't. I had our son when I was 18, which made it hard for me to go back to college. My husband and I made sure that my husband would stay in school andget his degree, and I would go back as soon as it was feasible. I worked 2 and 3 jobs to maintain. I used to be so depressed, because I value education so much and know you can't get far without it nowadays. My son also has asthma, so I spend a nice amount of time in the hospital with him. To have him there in ICU, irritated from having to take prednizone, struggling to breathe, hardly being able to talk is always hard for me, but the nurses were always so sweet and compassionate. My son is now 3, but he was diagnosed shortly after his first birthday. That's when I decided that nursing was for me. If I could comfort someone in a time of need and make them feel more comfortable then that's fine with me. I feel like the world needs more genuwine people. Surely, every day won't be a breeze, but I'm prepared for that side of nursing too! But finally, it's my turn!! I'm so happy that my son will be able to tell his classmates that his mommy is a nurse!!

Congrats to getting into NS :) and I am so sorry to hear that your son is struggling with asthma. Ironically, just today my son was finally diagnosed as having asthma (he is almost 11). To make a long story short, he too was in the hospital for a time as a baby. He was never diagnosed properly, but fortunately he only has a mild form.
I am proud of you for making it work! putting your husband through school first, and now it is your turn. My husband and I are doing the same thing, but we are much older and in the midst of changing careers. I will be attending nursing school in the evenings and weekends, and when I become a nurse and begin working (after being a sahm for 16 years) my husband will be going back to school to pursue his dream of becoming a firefighter/paramedic. It's a team effort...but feels so good to be moving in a positive direction.
It is so true that an education is very important. Best of luck to you!

Greetings!
Thank you for the kind words of encouragement.
I'm sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis.
When I become an RN in two years, my husband is going to go back to school.
It's all about compromising!
I believe in working hard for something you truly want, so I know we'll be okay.
Good Luck to you and your husband!
P.S.
I think we're going to be excellent nurses :-) :)
I am starting LPN school on Aug 17, I am so ridiculously excited. Ideally I want to become an RN but this is perfect because I graduate exactly when my husband gets out of the Marine Corps! I have ordered my scrubs and my supplies and stuff and I am just so pumped. :)
congrats to you! and thank you to you and your husband for the service and sacrifice :)
