  1. My hat goes off to you! I will be 22 in 2 days and am currently in my first semester of my LPN program. I am one of the younger students in my class, but thankfully, everyone is respectful of each other. I am also married with a 3 year old and one on the way. I know that's hard to digest since I look like I am about 16 (LoL) but I am an adult. A hard-working, determined one at that. God-willing, I will be an LPN at 22, August, 2010 and hopefully an RN at 23, the following year. Congratulations to everyone for getting this far, I wish you all the best!
  2. I think The College of Mount Saint Vincent & Pace University also have accelerated RN to MSN programs.
  3. Hey there :-) I think Mercy College offers something like that if you go to or have attended one of their affliated schools. They have a list of schools that they are affiliated with on their website. http://www.mercy.edu Good luck!
  4. Greetings! Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. I'm sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis. When I become an RN in two years, my husband is going to go back to school. It's all about compromising! I believe in working hard for something you truly want, so I know we'll be okay. Good Luck to you and your husband! P.S. I think we're going to be excellent nurses :-) :)
  5. I always said if not nursing, I would become a social worker. I just want to help people and make a positive difference in their lives!
  6. :ancong!: I wish you nothing but the best in your career!!
  7. Some of these stories are bringing me to tears!! I just got accepted to nursing school after a grueling 3 month selection process!! I'm looking forward to finally having a CAREER! I unfortunately have to quit my decent job in order to attend, but I think it'll be worth it. Luckily, I have the support of my wonderful husband, who believes in me even when I don't. I had our son when I was 18, which made it hard for me to go back to college. My husband and I made sure that my husband would stay in school andget his degree, and I would go back as soon as it was feasible. I worked 2 and 3 jobs to maintain. I used to be so depressed, because I value education so much and know you can't get far without it nowadays. My son also has asthma, so I spend a nice amount of time in the hospital with him. To have him there in ICU, irritated from having to take prednizone, struggling to breathe, hardly being able to talk is always hard for me, but the nurses were always so sweet and compassionate. My son is now 3, but he was diagnosed shortly after his first birthday. That's when I decided that nursing was for me. If I could comfort someone in a time of need and make them feel more comfortable then that's fine with me. I feel like the world needs more genuwine people. Surely, every day won't be a breeze, but I'm prepared for that side of nursing too! But finally, it's my turn!! I'm so happy that my son will be able to tell his classmates that his mommy is a nurse!!
  8. Wow!! I had no idea that PCA's made that much in NYC...I was planning on becoming a CNA to get me through NS, but now I'm going to def. see about becoming a PCA..thanks for the info!
  9. I find the Epocrates App. for my iPhone to be very useful.
  10. Welcome and congrats to you. I wish you nothing but success in your career!
  11. I will be starting nursing school in September and plan on working as a CNA while in school. I think it's a great idea!
  12. Thank you CocoBella! You did awesome! You shouldn't have any problem getting in. If I can be of any assistance, please let me know. Keep me posted!
  13. Hi guys!! I just wanted to share my good news! I am very proud to announce that I received my acceptance letter today!! The feeling is unbelievable!! I wanted this sooooo bad!! I got an 86 composite percentile score on the NLN and an 89 on the TEAS. The science killed me!! My interview was a breeze. I think the worst part of this whole process was waiting for the call for an interview. If you get that far, I don't think you'll have anything to worry about. Just let your personality shine through. I wish you all the best in your testing and interview process and I hope that we'll meet in September!
  14. Your welcome. Any time!!
  15. Greetings!! I went to a information session for the LPN program at Monroe on April 15, 2009. What I learned from it was that it is a 1+1 program. The LPN is 11 months and the RN is an additional 11 months. You have to take both the NLN & ATI exams. The cost for the exams are $100.00 that must be paid in person at the Bronx campus. For the NLN, you would need to score at the 60th percentile. For the ATI exam, you must achieve an overall score of 70% with no less than 45% in each subset. If you sucessfully pass the exam, the directors of the nursing program will schedule an interview. They say they only take 30 students, so the small classes would work to our advantage. They also said that they're nursing program is only 2 years old. They said they had a state boards passing rate of 96 percent. Another thing that interested me is that they don't require the pre-req's before you get there. They are actually included in your semester once accepted in the program. And these are actual transferable college credits. I don't know about you but I'm so excited! I'm praying that I do well on these exams. If we were to get in, we'll start in September and finish in August! I know I just rambled a bit, but I hope I gave you at least some useful information!! :w00t:
