Hi all, just wanted to share some great news-I got a job at a hospital in my area(trauma center) where I will be part of the orthopedic team-they take their own call and do their own scheduling. Part of me is a little scared but I think I need to put on my big girl panties, and suck it up. I think I can get some excellent experience here. I can scrub and circulate basic ortho(gamma nails, omegas, orif's of ankles, wrists etc, bipolars) but have never done trauma. Wish me luck!

Congratulations
Sounds like an exciting opportunity. When do you start? What kind of orientation will you get? Details, please :)
They normally have a perioperative class for those who have no OR experience but I will not be doing this class(they teach the basics, scrubbing, prepping etc), instead I will have a preceptor and will be on orientation for about 3 months. I start 8/6.

UGHGHGHG!!!!!! I am sooooo jealous!!!
I've been asking to scrub for over a year.
Can you let me know what state you're in?
If they're still hiring, I want to go, too, LOL
I have ortho trauma experience. If you like ortho, you will LOVE IT!!! It's sometimes sad & totally awesome at the same time.

Hi witchy,
congrats on your new job, I just started 2 weeks ago in a local or in mass. I was offered a great opportunity they are sending me to a perioperative class with labs and clinical for like 4 months. They are paying me an hourly rate to be there. Plus i learn on the floor. I dont think they cut me loose for 6 months to a year. I am a new nurse of 1 year before that i did visiting nurse. Best advice my preceptor told me one day at a time, one minute at a time. I joined AORN and bought the standards and practice book, which is what all ORs use, plus i needed it for class, but my hospital is paying for all that too.
good luck

This job that I got is primarily circulating, although I will get to scrub too(to give breaks etc) I have scrub tech experience so I think they like to see that you can do both..I live in Southern New England. The place I worked previously did teach the new OR RNs to scrub and I believe this new one does too, in that periop class I mentioned.
