  1. Hi I went to NSCC graduated with an associates RN in 2006, I liked the school alot, most of the instructors were great. We did our rotations at union, salem, beverly. Psych i did at tewksbury state. My suggestion is to do all the non nursing classes prior to starting the program , all your a&p's microbiology etc. Its almost impossible to do it all without doing that. Another suggestion, I know u dont know what this is yet, but when taking a test, and u cant decide between two answers, always apply the nursing process or maslows heirachy of needs to it, it usually helps. Anyway good luck. Pam
  2. hi grumpy I think I would go back to regular home care, rather then hospice home care. I know the paperwork is a killer. But if i could find some in my area. One day at a time, everytime i cant stand my job i have a good nite, and think I can stick it out longer. Pam:banghead:
  3. thanks for the advice. I liked the inhouse hospice, but the director made me feel that this would be more acute then my floor, in which i take care of 6 vent patients, some whom do crash. I didnt get the feel she was intereseted in me, think she was looking for nurses whom have done the hospital for 20 yrs and want a quieter job. Well things happen for a reason so I just chalk it up to that. I am ment to be where i am ment to be. Pam:rolleyes:
  4. Hi everyone, Ive been a nurse 2 yrs now, and have tried a few things like home care, OR and now Acute rehab,(vent patients). I am not happy where i am although i have learned alot. I am going for a second interview for a 12 bed hospice facility close to my home. Its only a couple of years old and looks like a hotel. The hours are better for me and my family and its only every 3rd weekend. I have been reading alot of hospice posts and most people seem to love it. It seems like a layed back atmosphere, they said i would have 6 patients per shift., some may be respite. Ive never done postmortem care. I'm not sure what to do? I just want to find a job to be happy, the rehab works me like a dog. HELP! Pam:bugeyes:
  5. sorry for the wrong information, boston college has a refresher but its about 1500 total for all three classes. Salem state has one also but i dont know how much that is.
  6. boston college has a rn refresher, its like 250 dollars, check out their web site
  7. thanks cherilee, I will take your advice, I dont want to jump into the first job that comes along and be miserable. I was taken back by that last response. I am a fairly new grad and can't just jump into any job. Good luck to you also Pam
  8. Hi all I was employed for 6 months in a hospital OR, I had alot of trouble grasping the asceptic technique, so 2 weeks ago the manager spoke to me. They gave me some remedial training for 2 weeks, then I made a break in technique and they let me go. We have a union, the rep was at the meeting. I am filing a unemployment claim. My previous nurse manager told me she had to put me down as per diem status. Im confused, I feel like I have to take whatever they offer. But I dont want to. Any ideas? Pam
  9. thanks for the reply and support!!! It is getting better but I would have thought after 5 months I would be over that. But we do have small rooms with alot of equipment in them. I am scrubbing neuro right now, I finished general. thanks again pam
  10. thanks guys, for all the good suggestions. Its been almost 5 months, i rotate between scrubbing and circulating. I am pretty good at not touching my face and such, but I bump into things like the microscope etc. That is the only complaint that my preceptors have is that I dont quite have the sterile conscousness yet. When Im learning so many new things, I put the other to the back of my brain. I do like the job tho so I cant wait till it all comes very natural!!!! hugs pam:idea:
  11. Hi guys I am an RN in the OR, I scrub and circulate. I have finished doing both in general and am starting neuro. My problem is I contaminate myself, any suggestions? I 95% percent of the time realize it before someone points it out to me. But i have so much on my mind trying to learn all this. Anyway it makes me feel so stupid. I do better circulating then scrubbing but we are required to do both. Any suggestions??? Pam
  12. Hi guys thanks for all the good ideas. Well i made it thru the day with him. As i was setting up my table i was so anxious that i got teary eyed. I finished and went to the ladies room. So maybe I got it out ahead of time. But what i had planned was that when he barked at me, I did what i was told and then to take my mind off of it, i would add numbers in my head. Yes I probably wasnt as good at anticipating what he wanted but It saved me. Well he went on to bark at the resident, and afterwards she said her piano teacher in first grade was worse, that he needs to step it up to shake her. Well hopefully it will improve from here. I feel that he must feel so incompetent that he has to do that. Thanks again all! Hugs Pam
  13. Hi everyone Im new to the OR 8 weeks now, and there is one arrogant surgeon who treats everyone like crap. Well most people have learned to put up with him. Twice now he has brought me to tears, once I had to break scrub and get a replacement. I am not doing anything wrong, but its his demeaning tone of voice, like how dare I talk back to him. Other than him i like my job. I have to scrub for him on monday and it has ruined my weekend thinking about it. Any suggestions on what I can do to be able to control my tears and not break down, because my nose starts to run etc. You know how bad that can be when your scrubbed. I know everyone says dont let it bother you hes just a jerk etc. But thats not helping me at this point,. HELP!!! Pam:angryfire
