New job seems sketchy

So, I could use some advice. I've been looking for a job for a few months and finally found one that works for me, and I think I would like. I was supposed to meet with the director of nursing, but couldn't meet them because they had a meeting. During my interview, the person interviewing me asked me why I didn't want to work full time. When I explained I was a bible teacher, their reaction made me slightly uncomfortable. However, they decided to move forward with the hiring process. I have all my paperwork, and the DON called me and said he would text me the info for where to report on my first day. This was 2 days ago and i haven't gotten a text yet. Also, he had a strange reaction when I told him the availability I was hired with. I reached out via text, as he asked me to. But it's been 24 hours with no response. What should I do?

24 hrs isn't too long to wait for a response. When is your first day? It does sound like they're a bit casual about the hiring/orientation process.

Tuesday. There's just no communication it seems. Also, the DON is impossible to get ahold of.

It could mean something negative but it could also just mean that the person was in meetings or otherwise unavailable. It does happen. Stay positive or just develop a wait and see attitude.

So should I reach out again?

How far away is your first day? if It's a week out, I would give it sometime... if it's in two days, I'd reach out by calling the facility and asking for the DON, not text... and ask where you should report to on your first day and if theres anything else you need to bring.

It's tuesday, and I sent a text because he told me that's the best way to get ahold of him. Whenever I do call the facility, he's unavailable.

I once was hired by an employer that took over four months to go through the process, then took another three months or so to provide me with any work. Eventually, I ended up not working for them at all. Yet they still sent me weekly emails about their "core values" for months, more than a year, afterwards. Needless to say, I don't recommend that particular employer to anyone. I would wait it out just long enough to decide whether or not you need to restart your job search. And next time, when explaining anything, I would not mention details dealing with religion. There are a lot of people that are uncomfortable with that subject mixing in the workplace. You don't want that to keep you from working.

I wasn't going to mention it, but the interviewer asked and I wanted to be honest.

I wasn't going to mention it, but the interviewer asked and I wanted to be honest.

"Why don't you want to work FT?"

"I'm a bible teacher."

Was your point that you aren't available on Sundays? Just say that if so. You can be honest without disclosing that you are a bible teacher in an interview.

She asked why I didn't want to work FT, I said I had another job, which prevented me from working FT at this one. She asked what it was and I told her that I was a bible teacher. What else was I supposed to say?

Lol, you just didn't originally state that she asked what other job you had. So it sounded kind of funny.
