Hi,
I am a Graduate Nurse with a BSN (as of last Saturday) and I just moved from Kansas City to North Dallas. When I looked online before moving, I saw many nursing jobs, so I thought I would have no problem finding one. I was not expecting all of the hospitals to have Internships that don't start until January- we don't have those in KC. So now my problem is that I can't find somewhere to work until January, and that is too long to wait. The only hospital I have found that doesn't have Internships is the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, and I submitted my application and called them last week. Does anyone know of any other hospitals that I could possibly get hired at without waiting until January? I'd appreciate any suggestions! I'd love to work in the ER, but I am also happy with any other hospital area.
Thanks,
Katie
I've applied for almost every RN I and Nurse Resident job openings at Parkland and havent heard anything back! I called the Recruiter yesterday, and told them I have applied online but I was checking to see if there was anything else I can do, and the recruiter was very short with me and told me if I had already applied online there was nothing else I can do, but wait for a recruiter to contact me.
I applied for other RN I positions 1 and half months ago, and havent heard anything from that time either!
Ive moved to Dallas 2 months ago, and have applied to almost every hospiital in Dallas, and I've had 1 interview so far.

That particular post was written back in 2006, more than four years ago, when the nursing job market was more robust. This same facility is no longer hiring.Hi Commuter,I read your post if you would graciously please inform me on which facility it is that hires BSN graduates without a license @ 23/hr please. hello everyone. i am a new grad rn with bsn and phn. i have over 17 years of lvn experience in acute care and other settings. i want to move back to fort worth area since i am unable to find a job in the sacramento, ca area. i want to know what the rn pay is in texas, and where should i look for a job? all the hospitals that i have applied at so far will not consider lvn as nursing experience. i wish i would have never become a nurse. furthermore, i will work at burger king before i work at a nursing home. i have dialysis experience as well. any suggestions?
As long as you approach the job market as if nursing homes are beneath you, you will remain unemployed.Furthermore, I will work at burger king before I work at a nursing home.
I'd much rather earn in the $30 hourly range as an RN in a Fort Worth area nursing home before I would even think of working at Burger King for minimum wage. However, I suppose that it is different strokes for different folks.
Thanks for the reply, but I need to clarify. If I want just a nursing home job there are plenty in Sacramento, but the reason I do not is that patients receive poor care. Most nursing homes in Sacramento have one RN for over 36 patients. Additionally, they have the responsibility of supervising LVNs and CNAs. Considering the regulations and the special needs of geriatric clients, the staffing is inadequate to provide quality care. Maybe Texas nursing homes operate differently. Moreover, I love acute care and I would hate to kill my career before it begins. In California, RNs who have long-term care experience only, are considered unskilled. I am truly sad for the poor patients who have to be locked up in a nursing home. Nursing home nurses lack the ability to provide quality care because of inadequate staffing. I love the elderly and I would gladly care for them in any setting as long as adequate staffing is provided. My idea of good staffing is 10 patients for 1 RN and 1 CNA. I prefer to bathe and clean my patients with the CNA. Therefore, nursing homes are not beneath meth, they are simply unsafe.
here is a link as to how bad the job market is:
If you are moving to DFW in order to find work you will be quite disappointed. Most of the new grad internships have been filled and the job market here is devastatingly tight. Very few openings for far too many new grads. I would suggest you look in rural areas, who are rumored to still be willing to hire a new graduate without an internship. Best of luck.
