new grads with two rn jobs?

Published

I'm a Dec 2012 new grads. As soon as I passed the board in Feb, I sent out tons of resume applying for jobs. I got my first interview from a skilled nursing facility about 10 days ago and was hired on spot for part time. I'm just waiting for the fingerprint result to come back then to begin orientation. Yesterday, I received a phone call from the hospital that I wanted to work for an interview next week. I'm really excited but at the same time, I‘m not sure if I can handle working two jobs as a new nurse while running a small family business, and being a mom of 18 mo old. I know it's just an interview, and I may not get the job. But what if I DO get the job? I know it's hard for new grads to get a job in this market, and opportunity like this don't always happen. What would you do? Any opinion is appreciated.

Is the hospital position full or part time? If offered the job, I'D say go for the one you really want/see yourself at in the future.. May be very difficult to juggle 2 jobs as a new grad (especially with orientation & time flexibility..). Best of luck in whatever you decide! :)

I applied for both part time and full time position but forgot to ask which position they are interviewing me for. I'll find out next week.

Specializes in ER/ICU/STICU.

I say go to the interview and see how it goes. If they offer you a job and you decide it is not for you, you can just pass on it.

Best of luck at the interview! See how it goes, and if they offer you the position, think it over and pick the one you will be most satisfied with! :)

Interview went well on Tuesday. Just waiting for his call next week to see what happens.

Good luck! Let us know if you get it!

So, I got a call from nurse manager on Thursday for another interview. She asked me some basic interview questions like tell me what you know about our hospital, what make you want to be a nurse, tell me about yourself, where do you see yourself in five years, blah blah blah. I was prepared for those questions so I was calm and confident. She seemed highly interest in me and told me to stay few more minutes for peer interview. What peer interview? I was totally not expected! There were four staff nurses in peer interview, and I was really nervous and stumbled on some questions. They asked me something like describe yourself and your personality, how do you handle stress, how do you prioritize tasks and delegation, how do you make yourself fit into a team, why do you want to work day shift, and how do you handle disagreement with MD. Every time I answer a question, they write something in the paper like they are grading me. I know they have 6 more candidates to interview next week so I can only be patient and wait for NM's call. Anyways, regardless the result, I will learn from this experience and be more prepared next time.

I didn't get the job. They decided to hire other candidate. The NM said she will forward my application to other managers. I was really disappointed for 15 mins then I picked myself right up and move forward. It was a good experience though.

Sorry you did not get the job. All you can do at this point is learn from your experience and move forward. Which it sounds like you are doing. Hopefully you still have the job offer at the skilled nursing facility. Best of luck

Maybe it was a good thing you didn't get the job? Sounds like you already have a lot on your plate since you already have a new RN position plus a family business. I would just chalk it up to a good experience with interviewing. I do know how you must've felt tho during the peer interview. I also felt like I was being graded during an interview since after I answered each question they all wrote things down. Very intimidating to say the least.

Sorry to hear that you did not get the position :(

I know I am seeing this posting late!!

Sounds like a very stressful surprise peer interview. I'm glad you were willing to share your experience, now, both you and all of us can learn from your experiences.

Best of luck with your current position. Best of luck with your career and any future job searches you may have!
