Finally, start new job as RN tomorrow
I graduated in Dec 2012 and passed NCLEX in Feb. I scored my first interview and landed a part time RN job in March in a skilled nursing facility. I passed the lifting test, drug screening but got stuck on the fingerprint for background check. I have light prints, and I always have to go back to do a second set because of the poor quality. When they rejected second set, they do name search with FBI instead, and it's a snail process. Today, I call HR to followup my background check status, and she said that since they have to hire me within 30 days from the offer, they might not be able to employ me at this time. I was shocked and told her that it's not my fault that background check took so long, and she said that she is going to call the corporate office to see what they can do. 15 minutes later, nurse manager called back and told me to attend orientation tomorrow. They re-processed my application and want me to start as soon as possible. I was working as waitress while waiting to begin this new job, and I have to find someone to fill in for me in such a short notice. If you are in similar situation, always to follow up just to make sure you are still in the game. Good luck to you all.

Job interview?
I had an interview three weeks ago with nurse manager on oncology floor and followed by peer interview. Nm said she has 5 more candidates to interview and will let me know next week. She did call me back but they decided to go with the other applicant but will forward my application to other floor managers. I didn't put too much thoughts into it because i thought she is just saying it to make me feel better. Just as i was about to give up reapplying to that hospital, ortho neuro floor called for interview. This time, learn from past experience. im going to focus on peer interview. Everything went well. Better yet, some nurses in the peer interview know me from clinical rotations. After that, Nurse manager discuss when orientations starts, schedules, and other things with me as if i got the job. But she said there are more applicants that she needs to interview first before she makes decision. She also said, if hr calls next week, that means i get the job. If she didn't call you, you can always call back to follow up. A phone call won't hurt, and it also shows your intetest in that position. Good luch

Starting in Long Term Care - are you stuck there?
I agree with the pay part. I land a job at skilled nursing facility/long term care, and the pay is pretty competitive compare to hospital. The hours are great (8 hr shift), and the nurses do meds, IVs, and discharges just like in the hospital except the patients are in more stable condition. I like it because I get to keep my nursing skills without the intensity of acute bedside care, and the pay is good. Good luck to you.

new grads with two rn jobs?
I didn't get the job. They decided to hire other candidate. The NM said she will forward my application to other managers. I was really disappointed for 15 mins then I picked myself right up and move forward. It was a good experience though.

reapplying at the same company
I'm sorry that happened. Yeah, I would call to find out how soon can you reapply. Don't give up.

new grads with two rn jobs?
So, I got a call from nurse manager on Thursday for another interview. She asked me some basic interview questions like tell me what you know about our hospital, what make you want to be a nurse, tell me about yourself, where do you see yourself in five years, blah blah blah. I was prepared for those questions so I was calm and confident. She seemed highly interest in me and told me to stay few more minutes for peer interview. What peer interview? I was totally not expected! There were four staff nurses in peer interview, and I was really nervous and stumbled on some questions. They asked me something like describe yourself and your personality, how do you handle stress, how do you prioritize tasks and delegation, how do you make yourself fit into a team, why do you want to work day shift, and how do you handle disagreement with MD. Every time I answer a question, they write something in the paper like they are grading me. I know they have 6 more candidates to interview next week so I can only be patient and wait for NM's call. Anyways, regardless the result, I will learn from this experience and be more prepared next time.

new grads with two rn jobs?
I'm a Dec 2012 new grads. As soon as I passed the board in Feb, I sent out tons of resume applying for jobs. I got my first interview from a skilled nursing facility about 10 days ago and was hired on spot for part time. I'm just waiting for the fingerprint result to come back then to begin orientation. Yesterday, I received a phone call from the hospital that I wanted to work for an interview next week. I'm really excited but at the same time, I‘m not sure if I can handle working two jobs as a new nurse while running a small family business, and being a mom of 18 mo old. I know it's just an interview, and I may not get the job. But what if I DO get the job? I know it's hard for new grads to get a job in this market, and opportunity like this don't always happen. What would you do? Any opinion is appreciated.

450 Resumes sent. 0 call backs.
I'm a Dec 2012 new grad. Soon after passing the board, I got ACLS, PALS, and NRP certification to make my resume look good. I have been working in the same place as floor manager for over 10 years, and during the meantime, I obtained a real estate license and open a small business while continue working. Yes, I was doing three jobs at the same time and decided to quit real estate to go to nursing school. Maybe my relentless self improvement is what caught HR's eyes. I got my first interview a month later from a skill nursing facility (not my first choice) and was hired on the spot for part time position. I continue to apply PT/FT at the hospital that I want to work at and stating that I'm working on the BSN. Few weeks later, I got a call from the hospital for an interview next week. Don't be discouraged, keep your head up, and I'm sure your hard work will pay off.

background check
I went for my first interview today and was ask to do a urine drug screen ( I was on my period, awkward!) and then a lifting test and background check. The nurse recruiter offered $$/hr and then told me to wait for her phone call once she got the background check result. I'm not sure if that's how it works but it feels like I got the job.
