I got my RN license this February and since then I have sent out many applications through HFO, but nothing happened. I feel so confused and sad about this. Actually, my resume has been proofed by a job counsellor. I don't know what I can do now.

Does anyone have same experience and anything else could I do to get a job?

Same here, I took the exam in June, haven't got the results yet, but I have been sending applications since Feb. My resume and cover letter were proof read by career centers for many times and my placements were great. I haven't got any interviews yet... :( help!

Generally the job situation in Ontario is pretty bleak right now unless you have experience or a specialty. Many places have postings but these are filled internally.

Same here! I was hired in my 3rd year of school on a contract to start when I got my temp RN. I had my consolidation in ICU and was set to start there as a temp RN, but the hospital was trying to change portions of the contract and not hold up their end of the deal and I ended up resigning. Now I can't find work anywhere! I've put my resume in for every single RN posting on HFO I've pulled strings and used contacts that know people in hiring positions. Argh!!! When my Dad graduated we moved down to the US because there were tons of jobs there, but it looks like their job situation is no better right now!

I hope that all of you guys will post the minute you get a job, any job. This is not encouraging for me to hear this as I am considering doing my RN. I have already had to turn down an offer to begin an RN program once:mad:.

Let's hope that this situation is temporary.

I would never discourage someone from getting more education. The current job situation has happened in the past and I'm sure it will happen again in the future. I don't know you so I won't say that I think you personally should go on to become a RN, but I will say that I'm glad I did even though the job situation is pretty bad right now. I know I will find a job somewhere...

Hi, the job situation isn't good right now. But keep applying anyway probably outside of HFO. Try LTC, VON, Home care Agencies, and other places outside the hospital that may hire you casual or part-time, until the jobs open up again. Hospitals are trying to balance their budgets right now, there are hiring freezes everywhere. But they will eventually have to open up again, they have too, we are still working short and need people. But if your heart is set on one area, you may have to relocate, a new nurse I work with just moved to BC for a L&D job, it would have taken her forever to get a job (or full-time) for that matter in her specialty in Ontario. Otherwise take courses in your area or interest, use this time productively.

Just a note... I have 2 interviews next week! It is not really what I want - LTC - but I applied because I think it will give me a good chance at a slightly slower pace than hospital nsg to learn the ropes of being on my own as well as gain leadership skills. We've all gotta start somewhere I guess! And they are both ONA so I will make the same as I would at the hospital.

Wish me luck! These will be my first "real" interviews! I worked as a PSW but the DON didn't interview me she just said when can you start? Lol

Good luck to everyone else!

PS

These are both places that I applied to outside of the HFO site. One of them I had a connection and she had a PT posting and the other I didn't even know if they had anything available but I sent my resume to the DON and got a call about 2 weeks later. So send your resume EVERYWHERE :)

that's encouraging! could you share the web sites that you use to search? Thank you a lot!

By the way, did you get your exam results back yet?

Congratulations RecsueNinja, I am sure you will be offered something at both of these places. Glad to hear that something came up so quickly. I am sure the hospitals will open up eventually too.

No results yet :(

I just went to the websites of LTC homes in my area and looked for the DON's e-mail address or a phone number if the DON's e-mail wasn't there and I'd call the main number and ask for their e-mail. Hope this helps :)
