New Grad Salary in NYC

It ranges a lot from mid 60k to mid 80k depending on acuity of the facility and whether you take day or night shift. Night shift salary for a large private hospital was around 82k in 2013 last that I know of. Public hospitals may pay a little less. Long term care facilities may pay on the lower side of the range.

I was just given an offer at NYP. Base is 84k with BSN and 90k with night differential. The process is tedious and it took almost 5 months from beginning to an offer.

That's a pretty sweet deal rnNYC17. It's probably the highest salary for new grads in nyc since it's a top ranking private hospital. I knew NYP paid well but I didn't know it was that well :woot: I thought my hospital was paying decently already but now this really makes me consider whether I should start upgrading jobs.

Also take into account the higher paying jobs with decent benefits versus the lower paying jobs with incredible benefits.

Wow RNnyc17 that's really amazing. What kind of benefits do they provide if you don't mind me asking? NYP is a hospital I would love to work at once I graduate. Do you know if they hire ADN nurses enrolled in a BSN program? My BFF aunt is a nurse there and told me when I'm ready to let her know. I would hope through her connection I could land a job there.

Flarelynx I think in life there's always the thought of upgrading yourself, especially when it boils down to your career. I mean you should love nursing but in the same aspect you should also be paid well to do something you love. 90k as a new grad is really amazing. I wonder how much MSK pays new grads now. I know MSK is another high paying facility. What hospital do you work at if you don't mind me asking?

Cornell-65k

NYP: 83K

Sinai: 70k starting sometimes 73 depending on experience.

Cornell is part of NYP so I dont think they would have significantly different starting salaries. I also think Mount Sinai's salary is higher.

ChrisB718, I haven't received my benefits package yet but I do believe they provide a 403(b) and i think 10 vacation days and 1 sick day/month for new grads and it goes up from there. Unfortunately I've heard it is extremely difficult getting into NYP with an ADN since I think they are trying to achieve magnet status but if you are getting your BSN i think that would work. Connections to the hospital are also very important. Good luck!

No actually that is true because I have two relatives who work in HR and I worked at both facilities

also Cornell is a part of the medical College even though they're affiliated with Presbyterian their salaries are independent because Cornell is more clinic whereas Presbyterian is more hospital

Merger of New York Hospital-Cornell with Columbia Presbyterian Hospital was a large hot mess that took some time to get sorted. Since the now New York-Presbyterian system is comprised of what once were two separate institutions not everything is seamless.

IIRC one is union (Columbia) while New York hospital is not.

Each hospital system also had their own medical and nursing cultures (Cornell's New York Hospital for instance once had a famous nursing program), that while under now the same umbrella still often are different.

On balance you can see why compensation might be different between the two facilities even though they have been merged for nearly twenty years or longer IIRC.
