Specializes in New Grad.

Hello All,

What is the new grad RN minimum I should be looking for in California? I just want to make sure I am not getting played. $30/hour?

Specializes in Med-Surg, NICU.

Depends where in Cali. But I imagine $30/hr anywhere in Cali is too low, especially with such high state income taxes.

My little community hospital was paying new grads $30 a few years ago. I think it's gone up since then, but I'm not sure to what.

I tend to think of what you "should" be expecting as a fluid thing. What better offers are you getting? Is there anyone else you're waiting to hear back from?

CT is suppose to be one of the best paid states and that is about how much the new nurses are paid here.  I look back when I was a new nurse...LOL LOL $17.33/hr and I thought I was the richest person on my block... Congrats and best wishes to you sister nurse

Thank you honey

30/hr is stupid low from what I always read. In NJ many hospitals start you at 35-36. 30/hr is south Jersey or at a nursing home.

Yes, but what they do in Jersey or in Dallas or in Omaha or in Miami has little to do with what they do in Southern California. It's apples to oranges. She is right to specify her investigation for her market.

I’m in Northern CA, Sacramento area and recent new grads from our program are starting at $40 for SNF and $45-60/hr for hospitals. Most are union, so the pay is more consistent among those.
