New Grad Pay!!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I know the 'Nursing Pay' discussion has had the CRAP beat out of it, but this thread is directed to those NEW GRADS that have just accepted their FIRST nursing job with ONLY SCHOOL-RELATED EXPERIENCE behind them. If you will, please answer the following questions:

1) Degree (i.e. Associates, Bachelors, etc.)

2) Starting Salary or Hourly pay

3) CITY and STATE in which you will be working

I am a career changer and I AM NOT going into nursing for the money, but my hopes are to get some REAL figures from this thread in an attempt to 'GUESS-TI-MATE' just what type of pay I should expect.

Any and all HONEST responses will be GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks!!

I realize that cost of living is more on the coasts than in the midwest but dang....some of the new grad pay is close to what I am making with 15yrs experience. Pooh...oh bother.

In the south there are very few unions. One of the major hospitals voted down a union around 2 years ago. The closer to the south the less unionization or knowledge about what unions really do. I am as far north as I want to be here in N.C.

When I started work as a new grad in Philly (about a year and half ago) the base pay was 22.00. It was raised in May to 23.10 so I am sure it will go up again this year. There is differential for night shift and also a loan reinbursement program.

I have accepted a job in St. Louis working weekend option. Base pay is $25 plus shift differentials, total of $30. It is a teaching hospital on a tele floor. I will graduate in May with an ADN!

1. RN

2. $21.23

3. Boston, MA

For RNs, in Baltimore, MD, I'm getting a offers from $20-22 per hour on days. Differentials vary. It doesn't matter if you have an ADN or BSN, new grad salaries seem to be the same.

quote- "At the hospital I am working at right now-new grad pay starts at $29.75 with either ADN or BSN...."

TMS- where in Cali are you? I am moving there when I finish school and have not seen any hospitals advertising that kind of pay rate. The most I have seen was for about $25/hr at UC Davis but that is too far for me. Can you let me know when you get the chance?

Thanks!

New grad pay to start at $22.75 with a step pay increase yearly on your anniversary date of hire for the first 10 years and also your yearly increase with wage contract percentage settlement.

Diff pms $1.60, noc $3.25, noc rotator $2.75, weekend dif $2.75, call pay $2.75. These diffs all go up a quarter next year.

Here in the department of corrections in Oregon we usually don't hire new grads but sometimes it depends if you have had any LPN experience before you start working for us.

We have a great retirement system, fairly good medical, dental and optical insurance. We get shift differential for everything after 6pm and we are now negotiating a new contract for the next year and hopefully will get some more benefits.

I am a 14 year state employee and make about 26.00/hour without my overtime and shift differential included. I get two checks a month and the second one is all my overtime, shift differential and holiday pay.

Right now if I work one or two overtime shifts I make more money than any of my bosses.....it really makes me realize why I don't want a management job.

BTW our new nurses make about 22.00 an hour to start and work their way up to where I am.

Forgot to mention, I believe if they are paying up to $15,000.00 towards school loans. Seems to me I heard it is paid out over at the most a 3 year time but would have to confirm that. A recruiting technique rather than a bonus for new hires.

New grad, ADN, will start working this summer

Here in NW FL at the hospital I plan to transfer to (from Alaska) they start new grads out at $16.50/hr-last year they started at $14, with shift diffs at $3.50 and $5.00(nights)

Not sure how much the weekend diff is

The $ in Alaska was MUCH better but Uncle Sam said it was time to go. New grads there can start anywhere from $18-$25/hr depending on where(hospitals, clinics, etc.) and for hosp. that doesn't include the shift and weekend diffs.

Sure miss Anchorage!
