  1. I'm currently on a travel assignment in NYC. It literally took less than a month for me to have my NY RN license issued after submitting all required documents (including completion of required online courses). Good luck to you!!
  2. the university has a great reputation, however the hospital (Hahnemaann) does not. congratulations on ur acceptance and good luck with your studies. the ACE Program is NO JOKE - so be sure to take your studies VERY SERIOUSLY!! if you have not done so already, please speak with an ACE graduate and/or current ACE student - they can give you the low-down on what to expect as far as examinations/clinicals. you will literally have to eat, sleep and sh!t nursing content. again, Good Luck!!
  3. Thanks for the response augigi!! Any other replies/feedback would be greatly appreciated!!
  4. hello all- new graduate RN here - currently interviewing for my first RN position. i am interested in critical care - preferably cardiac. i have interviewed for a tele position on an adult step-down unit and am patiently awaiting their decision. in the mean time, i have another interview scheduled for a step-down position in a pediatric ccu. as a new graduate, will i have any advantage/disadvantage taking one over the other? any advice, suggestions, or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!! xoxoxoxox
  5. While you were preparing for the exam the first time, did you have to sacrifice a lot of quality time with him? Its possible that he could just be frustrated at the thought of having to sacrifice even more time while you prepare for the exam the second time around. Just a thought.
  6. First, confirm that your school sent the BON the necessary paper work!! Sometimes it's not the board, its ur school that's the hold up. In PA, it took exactly 2-weeks to get my ATT once my school handled their part. Good Luck!!
  7. Took NCLEX for the first time at 10am on 10/30/06. Finished school in May, but was in no hurry to take the test since i had no plans on taking a hospital job until i secured a license (hey - i didn't need any additional pressure!). Well, i figured i'd be done by 11:30am after completing no more than 75 questions...NOT!!! Talk About A Rude Awakening!! I freaked after #76, took a bathroom break, cried a little bit, then returned to the testing room to finish what i'd started. The questions just kept coming, and coming, and coming. I swear 50% of the exam was prioritization, delegation & assignment (thank God for the Mosby book!!!!!). One med calc question (#261). Finished #265 with about 1.5 hours to spare. Left the testing center convinced i had failed (i know, just like everyone does!). How on earth will i get through the next 48 hours???? Well, I WON'T!! Instead, the afternoon of the 24th hour (today), i decided to call the BON to inquire about a license being issued. The woman on the phone paused, confirmed my social, name, and address...then proceeded to GIVE ME MY LICENSE NUMBER!!! I nearly pooped my pants (no, seriously - i nearly pooped my pants - had only been drinking chocolate milk for the past 24 hours!!)!! Before hanging up, Ms. BON inform me that i would be able to view my information on the BON website by 7:30am the next morning. I would like to thank: *SUZANNE4 for sharing her plan/tips with me (Saunders works WONDERS for content review/refreshment!!). **Mosby for the 'Prioritization, Delegation & Assignment' question/answer exercise book!! ***KAPLAN Q-BANK (taught me how to think through the questions i didn't know!! Taking the NCLEX was LITERALLY like sitting through one of the Kaplan exams!!!). Best of luck to all the up and coming 265ers. Remember (as hard as this is to believe): THE NUMBER OF QUESTIONS YOU GET TRULY MEANS NOTHING!!! xoxoxoxox
  8. You have NO IDEA how bad i needed THIS thread. LoL!! I'm studying for the NCLEX now and will be doing so for next next 6-8 wks!! Good luck to everyone taking it soon!! As Gigan said, 'no one is going to kick you out of nursing if you fail'! You haven't failed until you've STOPPED TRYING!!!!
  9. Hello All- I'm graduating from a BSN program in May 2006. Just started a new job in January 2006 that I would like to hold for at least a year (social services). I'm wondering whether there are hospitals that offer part-time graduate nursing positions. Any advice or information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  10. I'm just wrapping up my first year of nursing courses and have found Pharmacology to be the most difficult - only because there's so much memorization involved. Many of my other courses are based on obtaining a certain degree of understanding as opposed to memorizing side effects, names, contraindications, etc. As far as grades are concerned - I PASSED AND DO NOT HAVE TO RE-TAKE IT...that's all that matters. ;-)
  11. I am currently a nursing student in Philadelphia and my university, in light of the 2003 event at Abington, has decided against using this hospital as a clinical site. Regardless of what people say, there was nothing JUST about accommodating such an ignorant request. Until those who don't experience racism come to terms with the fact that it does indeed exist, things will never change in our world.
  12. If I'm not mistaken - the Sallie Mae Signature loan is an actual loan based on credit and debt/income ratios. I don't believe they hold current student loans against you. The only time I think the amount of school loans you have falls into play is when applying for the Stafford Loan - and that's only because there's a limit of approx. $140,000 that you can borrow from Stafford total (i.e. all degrees combined). Anyone else know where I'm coming from?
  13. 1. La Salle University 2. BSN (Evenings & Weekends) 3. Started Fall 2003 4. ~60 Good Luck Everyone!!!
  14. I'm doing a paper on GI nursing and am having problems finding info on salary and demand within the profession. If there are any GI/Endoscopy Nurse's out there that can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it. Also - feel free to provide any of the advantages/disadvantages of your role. Thanks in advance!!
