New Grad Jobs

Published

Just wondering how the job market is for new grads in Arizona? I will be graduating this May with an associates degree in NYS. It seems like there are hiring freezes in many states and new grads are having a hard time finding positions in hospitals and even LTC.

Specializes in Cardiac Care.

All the ads for the "Magnet" Hospitals say BSN preferred. So that may be what they are talking about.

Specializes in Nurse Leader specializing in Labor & Delivery.

Yes, in order for a hospital to have magnet designation, a certain percentage of their RNs must have a BSN.

But that certainly doesn't mean that the BON is trying to transition out of ADNs.

Specializes in Emergency, Trauma, Critical Care.

It's not the BON attempting to phase out ADN's. There are many more new graduates than jobs available everywhere. So if they have 50 applicants for one position (not at all uncommon now), wouldn't one way to narrow it down be to pick those with a BSN, and additional health care experience? Typically they will find more than one applicant out of the 50 meets those requirements, and they can narrow down from there.

Specializes in Behavioral Health/(New To) Neurology.

University Medical Center in Tucson consistently hires new grads.

Hopefully that info doesn't violate any AN site rules! If it gets deleted, you can just visit UMC's website and click on "For Nurses" on the homepage. :]

Are you sure about UMC? All their current postings require one year recent acute care experience minimum. My neighbor was in an RN class that had contracts to work there when they graduated. She said that many of her classmates were released from their obligation upon graduation because UMC had nowhere to put them. Free degree but no job.
