Is anyone else here in the area having a hard time finding a job as an Rn?

I graduated in September and have been applying to tons of stuff and have only heard back from one place.

Does anyone have an idea of who may be hiring new grad rns in fort worth?

Thank you :):nurse:

Well, all the new grad internships that start this January have pretty much been filled at this point. The ones for June start dates will start to post in March/April timeframe. But yeah....new grad jobs in DFW are very difficult to find.

Try the SNFs and subacute rehab facilities. In my personal experience, these places are more likely to give a new grad a chance when the major hospitals are not responsive. You will learn skills such as dealing with central lines, TPN, wound vacs, surgical incisions, and IV therapy if you work at one of these places.

Try the Fort Worth Center for Rehabilitation, ManorCare, Cityview Care Center, and other facilities in and around Fort Worth. You can walk in and apply with a paper application at most of these places. Good luck to you.

TheCommuter,

Do you know what the training would be like at these places? I am just worried about not having enough training or being thrown to the wolves haha.

These places generally do not have the money in the budget for lengthy preceptorships, internships, or long hospital-style orientations. You'll get a few days of training to learn the paperwork, routine of the units, medication pass, and skills.

If you have any questions after orientation is over, your coworkers will be happy to answer them. If you need to learn a skill, your coworkers will usually be helpful and walk you through it. When I was a new grad in 2006, I only received one day of training before being cut loose to work on my own. It is called baptism by fire. If you want a job badly enough, you'll find a way to stay above water.

call me crazy, but i see tons of new grad RN positions available online in DFW. Are you an ADN or BSN? Seems like new grad ADNs are having a tougher time of it nationwide :(

Just because 'tons' of positions are posted does not necessarily mean that the job openings are real or actually available to the public. Click on the link to read more about this phenomenon:

Honestly I can't fathom where you are seeing "Tons of new grad openings" at. I am sure those anxiously searching for a job would appreciate you posting links to some of these.

How are you distinguishing ads as a "new grad position?" I don't think I've ever seen anything that distinguishes between old and new grad, other than MAYBE years of experience, but, trust me, not requiring experience doesn't mean they aren't hiring experience.

I am an ADN, I started working on my BSN and should be done by September though. I hope that helps. I'm not sure where you are seeing "tons of new grad positions" though... Ive applied to numerous internships and residencies in the past 10 months and never heard anything back. Are those the ones you are referring to?

Thanks for the link. I want to point out though, that even if merely half of the postings were all that were "legitimate" opening, there is still a respectable number of jobs in DFW for new grads. I think the folks having a rough time finding a position should consider getting together and seeing what they have in common, and then try to eliminate those factors they identify as potentially holding them back. I know 5 May '12 BSN grads that have already begun work in DFW, and they graduated from a small school hours from the metroplex.
