New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

POST # 1 OVERVIEW OF NURSING REGISTRATION PROCESS

Submit all the documents required by AHPRA (Australia Nursing Board) to their office. They will evaluate your application, if okey, then will send you an Eligibility Letter. You will have to undergo a 2-3 months Bridging(Training) Program in schools that offer such program (BP). That Eligibility Letter will be the proof you present to a school, that allows you to enrol in a BP.

You can choose any BP schools that you want to enrol. However, the application for enrolment is competitive as there are a limited slots per batch of BP. Moreover, each BP schools have different requirements like some requires 2 years experience, some zero experience, some 6 mos. experience. Thus, it is possible that you may not be accepted in one school but may be accepted in another school.

After successfully completing the BP, the school will prepare and submit a report to AHPRA about your classroom and clinical performance. Presumably, you will pass the BP, then AHPRA after receiving the report will consequently process your registration. Hence, you will become a Australian RN.

just wanted to ask if what are those documents required by the Aphra? and please, i want to know what is this bridginfg program all about?what if i already have two years of experience here in phil and another 2 yrs experience in middle east? do i still need to undergo bridging training program? is it a requirement in australia to take this bridging program? thank you... ill wait for your immediate response.. :)

@ dumb, thank you for the message, I will just copy that. I think for the coordinator, you need to get that info from the school itself. It said on the form it's to be lodged before commencement, hence we need to find the name of the course coordinator prior to start of the course. goodluck

@really_confused

Just leave that part if it does not apply to you. However make sure to explain why you don't have experience yet.If you are a fresh graduate and still looking for work then put it on your resume. :twocents:

@iriszape

One way to find out if they will waive the BP in your case is to send an application to APHRA. It is possible t but chances are very slim.

The requirements are found in the AGOS-04 form.

Does anyone know what to do about health insurance and if it is necessary to apply for it?

is it the indemnity insurance? or the travel insurance? For indemnity I think this is required by Ahpra prior to issuing your registration. I think there are some insurance companies in Au that offer this type of insurance, if I am not mistaken around 300++ per year AUD.

If it is the travel insurance, this is all up to you, but remember this is like your own protection if you get sick in Au, the the cost of medical expenses there can be very high.

Yes it is required by law that anyone holding a temporary visa must apply for health insurance. Since you will not be using a student visa, I presume, I am not sure if you will be qualified to apply for a student health insurance. A popular students health insurance is OSHC you can look this up over the net. If you cannot apply for the students one, then just apply for the visitors one from other insurance companies like HBA for example. Hope this helps.

hi guys,

I already have a response from AHPRA. And it says here (or at least implied) that I am lacking the evidence of the successful completion of an English Language Test (that's under Q.16 in AGOS form)... but I did forward a copy to NBV before and after the time we were asked to reapply to AHPRA, I called one of their lines up to ask if there's a need to send another copy of my IELTS, the lady told me that the previous copy is fine. this confuses me. I'll give my case manager a ring tomorrow perhaps to clarify things...

just sharing.

Hi Haoyin!

I just want to ask some few questions. You took your BP in Latrobe, right? (i think I have read it before when you were still applying for the BP :) ), If yes, I assume you applied for the student health insurance since you were holding a student visa? And when do we need to apply for the insurance? is it before we apply for the visa? Sorry for my ignorance. . .

It is part of the requirements that you apply for the student health insurance soon after your application for the student's visa gets approved. The Australian Govt. requires that when you enter Australia using any type of temporary visa, you have already purchased a health insurance for the duration of your stay. In that case, you can probably get the insurance soon after your visa gets approved. Some or even most school/universities will probably include that health insurance in the package of your tuition and your insurance is usually valid throughout the length of your program. You just have to verify with the institution that you are probably going for.

Hope this helps.

Alright. thanks, Haoyin. This surely helps. now I have a grasp of what it is all about. Salamat! :)

@LadyMarmalade

Hello. The number is given in the letter I have received. When did you submit your application? It took more than 3 moths for the most of us before we received a response regarding our application status. If you sent your application on the same time as mine, I guess your letter is on its way too.

@ Mikyong

what branch did you submit yours? if NSW, can you pm me the name and number? i submitted mine 2 months ago. the only hard copy letter i have received from them was the AHPRA fee receipt. there was no name and contact number of the case manager there. but they update me rarely by e-mail. so they sent you a snail mail just to inform you to submit an IELTS TRF again? they informed me of my follow up documents through e-mail.
