Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
you should have been informed by the nursing board where you have submitted your application if you were already assessed or at least asked you to re-apply to AHPRA if they were not able to assessed it. I wonder what took it so long for you not to receive any news.have you tried following it up for updates, jakey? :)
as far as I know, nobody in this forum has received an approval from AHPRA yet.
I submitted all they required of me way before july 1... yet nothing.
I've been asked to submit new AHPRA forms and some requirements..... which I did... now I am on waiting mode again.
I just hope I don't have emphysema yet by the time I get approved
hoping somebody gets approved by AHPRA soon....
Hi, Good day! I'm Karen. I graduated last April 2007 in a university in the Philippines, took the Nursing Licensure Exam on June 2007, and became a registered nurse the same year. I have worked in a clinic for more than a year. I'm now here in Sydney. My husband is on a student visa and I'm his dependant. We're both also entitled to work (part time). I'm just wondering how can an overseas nurse work here in Sydney? I am willing to undergo a training program or to study again if needed. I'm not sure on what step to take so I need to know if there is a good chance for me to pursue my career here.
I really need some help. I don't have any friends here. My husband is studying in Le Cordon Bleu and I'm home alone, doing nothing!
I'm reading this thread for hours now and I'm a little confused. I wanted to send a private message to miks103 because I want to ask him/her something but I don't know how to? ;p I'm kinda sick today so please bear with me. :)
Hello everyone! I just want to share that I already received my letter of eligibility from AHPRA..woohoo! I was told that my application would be assessed in week commencing 04 Oct, so that's 3 weeks assessment period [approx]. I am now checking out schools that offer IRON program. I have to make lots of emails and expensive calls again. I hope someone can suggest a school that is still open for applicants early next year. I have to make it to jan or feb intake as my ielts is expiring in jul 2011.
I hope those who are still waiting will receive their letter soon so that we can be classmates early next year! Good luck and God bless guys!

wow congrats maam! that was quick. may I ask which branch of AHPRA did you submit your application? :) are you currently living in Australia now?
AHPRA: thanks..sorry i can't send pm yet..is it okay if i answer your question here, or you'll just wait until i have 15 posts? You can also ask other forumers, especially the pioneers.
Has anyone tried applying for a student visa? Can you enumerate the steps and req'ts for me? I am thinking it's better to get a student visa than a 456 visa, but i was told that student visa is more expensive, plus the processing is longer. I hope someone can answer me. Thanks a lot!
I'll be taking up ARNTP at City East UNISA...:)
im sorry i dont memorize all the addresses of all schools in Aus.. it would be good if at least you tell us what city but my guess is that you will be in Adelaide (wild guess becoz there are many cities).. if you are in Adelaide then a forum member here in Adelaide can help you, forgot her name.. i think her name is RN_OZ1 or OZ_RN1.. something like that, she has rooms for rent in Adelaide, again i dont know what city are you going..
Waah, where's my previous post?! This is a repost.
ceridwyn and mikyong: Thanks! Still a long way to go... The letter says that a list of schools that offer approved programs can be found in nmba website. I downloaded it weeks ago and my top choices were vchn [bec of the cheaper fee and shorter program, which is 10 wks], etea, and la trobe. I read somewhere in this thread that vchn's feb intake is closed..i already emailed la trobe..i'm also interested in castlemaine..
mikyong: I applied in vic..I suggest you email AHPRA every now and then. I had my fair share of appli disasters, thank God the first step is over. Prayers do help guys...
