Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Waah, where's my previous post?! This is a repost.ceridwyn and mikyong: Thanks! Still a long way to go... The letter says that a list of schools that offer approved programs can be found in nmba website. I downloaded it weeks ago and my top choices were vchn [bec of the cheaper fee and shorter program, which is 10 wks], etea, and la trobe. I read somewhere in this thread that vchn's feb intake is closed..i already emailed la trobe..i'm also interested in castlemaine..
mikyong: I applied in vic..I suggest you email AHPRA every now and then. I had my fair share of appli disasters, thank God the first step is over. Prayers do help guys...
hi sandy~ congrats! :) Can i ask when did you submit your application to AHPRA? im on my 3rd month of waiting since i lodged mine at AHPRA Victoria too. Your lucky you application was processed fast? Did you follow up your application status through an AHPRA counselor/assessor? oww.. im jealous you already got yours..huhu..but im happy for you :)
Hello everyone! I just want to share that I already received my letter of eligibility from AHPRA..woohoo! I was told that my application would be assessed in week commencing 04 Oct, so that's 3 weeks assessment period [approx]. I am now checking out schools that offer IRON program. I have to make lots of emails and expensive calls again. I hope someone can suggest a school that is still open for applicants early next year. I have to make it to jan or feb intake as my ielts is expiring in jul 2011.I hope those who are still waiting will receive their letter soon so that we can be classmates early next year! Good luck and God bless guys!
Congrats!
just want to clarify portion of what you wrote..."I was told that my application would be assessed in week commencing 04 Oct, so that's 3 weeks assessment period [approx]."...
are you trying to inform us that AHPRA had started assessing your application on 04 October and after 3 weeks (which is now) they finished their assessment and you were granted a letter of eligibility... is this what you mean, ryt? sorry just got confused and wanna clarify what you wrote because you are now providing an information important to others with pending application..
would be glad if you give us the TIMELINE of your application, others would be very grateful if you do so..
would be glad too if others could share to you about BP available as what you have requested for help..
congrats and good luck.... share your blessings by helping others via information sharing..
AHPRA: thanks..sorry i can't send pm yet..is it okay if i answer your question here, or you'll just wait until i have 15 posts? You can also ask other forumers, especially the pioneers.Has anyone tried applying for a student visa? Can you enumerate the steps and req'ts for me? I am thinking it's better to get a student visa than a 456 visa, but i was told that student visa is more expensive, plus the processing is longer. I hope someone can answer me. Thanks a lot!
indeed, student visa is much more expensive and processed longer.. imagine, if it takes 1-2 weeks for 456 visa to be processed, student visa may be 1-3 months.. the big difference though is that you can work part time if you have a student visa.. basically that will be your choice, if you have adequate funds and intellectually confident enough that you can work part time while studying BP, then get a student.. otherwise, just get a 456 visa esp. if in the first place you do not have plans to work part time...
456 visa processing is easy and many forumers here can definitely help because they will/have 456 visa..
Student visa... first of all check read DIAC website for appropriate steps.. we can only give you an overview of the steps..
1) get a school that is willing to accept you for BP..
2) get the "offer of place" of that school, this document is needed in your visa application..
3) check the documents required by DIAC, including the required insurance cover/policy..
4) medical check ups..
5) proof of financial capacity
etc. etc. etc..
your choice..

Hi, I shared the recent development in my application for the benefit of those who are still waiting, so that you can have an idea about how long the assessment might take. However, i don't think the time period can be applied to all. I hope I am not breaking any rules by posting these details. Please someone inform me if I am. I first applied in nbv in june, was asked to re-apply in ahpra. I sent my docs in mid/late aug [forgot the exact date] and received the result recently. If you're on your 3rd month then maybe your letter is on its way to your postal address. It helps when you have a friend/relative in au who can receive the letter for you. Good luck! God bless us all!

at least, it means Phil. nursing credentials are accepted just like before.. so it's good news to the rest of you (although you are still waiting)... would be better if sandy05 could at least give us some idea of her basic credentials like years of experience, volunteer or training experience, a second-courser or 1st courser... just basic for us to have a glimpse of AHPRA's viewpoint on filipino's applications..
well, applications are moving now...

wow.... all i can say, you're lucky! that was fast (based on current standards/situation)...
i agree, sometimes mails will be received here in the Phils. quite late..

Thanks, yes, that's what I intend to do eventhough i'm still in the first few steps. I still have a lot to do to go there. I know it's confusing, that's why i put a disclaimer above. You see I am one of the people who applied first to NBV and so I think I am considered a 'priority'. As I read before [don't know if it's here or in other forums], they are processing those who applied under the previous board first. I'm just not sure if it's really the case. This, as I remember, is my timeline [please note that I am not good at remebering dates so I might have some discrepancies]
june 2010 - applied to nbv
late jul - was asked to send new appli to A
mid/late aug - sent my appli to A via courier [since this time, i've been sending several enquries to A via their online enquiry form if they already received my appli]
1st wk of oct - was informed by A officer that yes, they received my appli in late aug [few days after sending it via courier] and that it will be assessed on that week.
let's all help each other..for those who are about to take or has finished BP, please help me with my school hunting, hehe..which school, do you think, is okay? there's a lot of school in vic, my problem is that want to find one that still accepts for jan or feb intake..

i agree. details like volunteer/employed, 1st/2nd course, months/years of exp would really help

let us simplify your case...
1) as far as nursing registration/career is concern, AHPRA will classify you as an overseas nurse THE SAME as all of us here.. in other words, you will go through the same process as other Filipino RNs here..
2) you said you were reading this thread for hours and got a little confused.. well, why dont you just spend 30 - 60 minutes (or less than that) by reading initially only PAGE 01 of this thread.. have you read page 01? did you get confuse reading page 01? What's confusing about page 01?
3) after reading page 01 (and AHPRA website if you have time), shoot your questions here and well be glad to help you..
