Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

cioman94: My problem with a 456 visa is that it's only okay for 3 mos..at least with the student i think i can be given 2 mos extension [ex. if i'm granted a 3 month student visa, plus extension]. i want to use the extension so that i can wait for my registration. It's also a hassle if i will arrive in au a day before the first day of the BP then leave exactly after the BP ends.
ahpra: I tried calling them but i had the same problem. An operator would answer your call, if they can't answer your question, or if you request them to transfer you to a specific state office, they will ask you to wait for a long time. An acquaintance who works in an agency once told me that they are using skype if they need to contact them. I just don't know how it works 'coz i am not a skype user [yes, i am old fashioned, hehe]
Keep on sending enquiry via the online enquiry form, or like i said, ask the pioneers.
Good luck!
Thanks, yes, that's what I intend to do eventhough i'm still in the first few steps. I still have a lot to do to go there. I know it's confusing, that's why i put a disclaimer above. You see I am one of the people who applied first to NBV and so I think I am considered a 'priority'. As I read before [don't know if it's here or in other forums], they are processing those who applied under the previous board first. I'm just not sure if it's really the case. This, as I remember, is my timeline [please note that I am not good at remebering dates so I might have some discrepancies]june 2010 - applied to nbv
late jul - was asked to send new appli to A
mid/late aug - sent my appli to A via courier [since this time, i've been sending several enquries to A via their online enquiry form if they already received my appli]
1st wk of oct - was informed by A officer that yes, they received my appli in late aug [few days after sending it via courier] and that it will be assessed on that week.
let's all help each other..for those who are about to take or has finished BP, please help me with my school hunting, hehe..which school, do you think, is okay? there's a lot of school in vic, my problem is that want to find one that still accepts for jan or feb intake..
While preparing to send my application last week,I contacted some BP providers of those who did not post intake dates on their website . Surprisingly, they replied quick, so i think these institutions are good choice especially that you are aiming to get there early next year . Good luck. these are what i gathered. :)
La Trobe has a January intake.
ETEA's course dates for next year are the middle of January and February with another course in April.
Mercy Health Training institute IRON dates for 2011
28 February 2011 - closing date for application 17 December 2010
23 May 2011 - closing date for application 18 March 2011
15 August 2011- closing date for application 10 June 2011
7 November 2011- closing date for application 9 September 2011

just double check with DIACs website and find other resource person about visa so as to arrive with appropriate decision,,, my opinion however is that 456 visa is extendable too just like student visa.. nonetheless at DIACs discretion, either 456 or Student Visa may not be extended... if others with 456 visa were able to find job without going home then it means their visas were extended.. (bridging visa is another thing)..

cioman94 and ahpra: i am a first courser, i finished bsn in a 5 year old school, and i have a 1 yr volunteer experience. i think the key is to provide exactly what they are asking for.
cioman94, you are already au rn right? when and where did you get your registration?
thanks for the info unadunad!

congrats, as far as I know ETEA still has slots for jan and feb, the consultants there are very friendly as well. ETEA is in Victoria.

with your "simple" credentials (no insult intended, okey) it would mean good chances for approval of other filipino applicants.. my personal opinion is that having an experience even just being a "volunteer" would really help prime up your credentials..
yes i am au rn since nov. 2009 originally from NT, then i applied for mutual recognition in nsw.. had 7 mos. volunteer exp. in a small district hospital prior nov. 2009.. then had 6 months training in a government tertiary hospital in davao city.. after the training, job hunting...
establish good clinical record during your BP and good relationship with your perceptors (which will be your referees later) then surely you will get a better job than others..

i thought the REQUIRED visa for BP takers is the 456 and not the student visa? or it depends on the school...?
