New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

AHPRA-WA is way too fast in their processing. I lodged my application July 7 and I received eligibility letter last September 8. Praise the Lord!

It's an answered prayer because I did not take IELTS. I only supplied a certification from my secondary and tertiary schools that the medium of instruction was English. But I think this loophole (if indeed a loophole) was patched up just recently with a new advisory that AHPRA released on September 19 specifically mentioning English speaking countries as exemptions. AHHH! I visited a forum in UK and they are very ecstatic. Imagine, they are native speakers but they get flunked on Reading and Writing. Some say they even took IELTS 5 to 6 times already. Unfair? I don't thinks so. We need such hurdles to make us more equipped in foreign lands. This just shows that Pinoys have the English skills comparable to some of our English native friends.Anyway, at least I will take IELTS after my BP. That way my English will be honed while undergoing the program... plus I don't have to worry my IELTS will get expired AGAIN for the third time.

The problem we have with a new IELTS advisory is that the competition becomes stiffer. I hope our fellow Pinoys ahead of us have smoothed our way by their "TLC." We do have a gift in the way we care for our patients... this is one thing that technology cannot duplicate...

RE: waiving your IELTS thru certification from your secondary and tertiary school. did you graduate in an INTERNATIONAL school (high school) or what school? and re: your nursing school? you asked only a certification that English is the medium of instruction?

but IELTS is still required for VISA and BP schools?

Hi, to NurseNathalie and Stereo, I am sorry for the confusion I caused with regards to AHPRA accreditation of University of Ballarat. I have clarified this with AHPRA. University of Ballarat IS an accredited BP provider. However, William Light Institute (which is under the University of Ballarat) IS NOT. That was what I meant with my previous posts.

thanks joiemike..

I already have an irish nursing license so I really dont know also if I will still need to do the BP since a lot of the nurses here be it Filipino, Indian etc.. they didnt go about it anymore since our BP here is credited in Australia, thats what they say anyway... so difinitely VIC is slow??? am i right? thanks guys..

Hi zonroz, thanks for the info. I'll email University of Ballarat then.

Education, Training, and Employment Australia or ETEA for short. :)

ETEA's tuition fee is very expensive. 14,000AUD, right? Do you know what other schools have short processing time after BP? Y'know, the final registration process with AHPRA. For example, do you have idea if La Trobe Bendigo has short processing time after BP?

Can we request certificate of good standing from ANY PRC office? I am now staying a bit far from where i was registered.I am worried that PRC would advice me to go home to get the certificate...:-l

AHPRA Eligibility Letters are valid up to? ONE year only?? no topic i think posted on this?

Hi! Yep they are valid for 1 year. Except for Perth wherein the letters issued are valid for 2 years. :)

Guys, anyone here still looking for a BP school?

I was set to do an interview with AAON but I was already enrolled in La Trobe so you guys might wanna try applying there. But they responded after 2 months from the date I sent my application so I grabbed the first school that offered me a slot. :)

Hi!

Just wanted to share some good news.. LAst Friday October 21st was my church wedding around 3pm. When we got home after the wedding I checked my email and there comes another blessing.. It is my long awaited reply from APHRA. After waiting for 3 short months i finally got a response from aphra. The letter says I have a contact # and case manager... thats a good start... knowing that my papers is already taken out from their bundles of application... BUT, my case manager says they havent receive my CERT OF GOOD STANDING and my TRAnscript does not show # of theoretical hours and they also wanted me to show them what subject was credited from my previous course..

My bro already sent the cert of good standing and yet they could not locate where it is. so I have to send a new one and ask for a course outline frm my school...

Course outline? is there anyone here ask for the same thing? a course outline of the nursing course and subjects from previous course that is credited??

is course outline different from the ones showed in ones transcript where in there is a subject and grades been given?

by the way Im from DAvao City and my school is in Madapo and im a second courser...

Congratulations erikadioza!

I also received an email on Oct 20 from my registration officer asking for theoretical hours and course outline. You can try to inquire from your school about this matter. From my school, our TOR only reflects the grades and units per subject. We don't have the theoretical hours in our TOR. However, they can be found in our course outline. Maybe I'll just submit a letter to my school explaining this circumstance so they can attach it upon mailing the documents to AHPRA. I already requested from my school for these and hopefully, will be able to send them by Thursday. As for the Cert of Good Standing, you have to go to PRC, request for the document and let PRC send them for you.

Just to share my timeline:

June 24 2011 - Sent my documents to AHPRA VIC

July 8 2011 - AHPRA VIC sent me receipt of application thru email

July 27 2011 - AHPRA VIC sent another email re: Overseas Preliminary Assessment (I was also given a reference number)

October 20, 2011 - AHPRA asked for additional documents (theoretical hours, course outline)

Guys, just wondering...how long does AHPRA usually reply after requesting for additional documents? I hope and pray it won't take them three more months before granting the eligibility letter.

as far as I read the thread, i cant see anyone who applied to other AHPRA State offices like SA, NT, NSW, Tasmania who can give us an idea if they assess application faster?
