New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

guys. need your advice. got notification from ahpra already after sending my documents last sept 26. they're asking to me to send another copy of the AGOS form because I had printed it in filling out the form. I need to hand write it. My problem is that I'm afraid they might charge another 450$ because I'll be filling another form. Do you think I should leave Section J page 9 of the AGOS form and leave a note? TIA. please help. thanks

BTW, i plan to call ahpra office and inquire about this. any suggestions what's the cheapest way to make an international call. TIA.

how come? i asked the registration officer at ahpra and she told me to go to this page

http://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/accreditation.aspx

in the approved programs of study pdf, university of ballarat is still listed as accredited bp provider.

hi, i got confused as well. that is why i have decided to apply at la trobe instead just to be sure.

i emailed ahpra and asked if william light is an accredited bp provider.

i have even given them the link of the course run by william light.

and this is the reply from ahpra:

please be advised that the courses you are enquiring about, run by the william light institute, are not accredited with the nursing and midwifery board of australia (nmba). even if the course is affiliated with ballarat university it would still require accreditation with nmba.

Hi, many cellphone companies now offer cheap call and text services abroad. I used my Sun Todo IDD card. 5 pesos/minute

not yet, they won't be done assessing my papers until 3 weeks has passed.

who among you here will have their BP at IHNA Melbourne campus?;)

To those who applied for 456 visa, where you asked about your IELTS result? I lodged my application last Monday and I received a call from my case manager at the embassy telling me that I have to undergo medical examination and that I have to provide them a copy of my IELTS result. My IELTS expired last August 22,2011 and just retook it last October 22,2011. I will be receiving the result 13 days after. Is anyone in the same situation like mine? I'm still nervous with the result of my IELTS. What if I didn't get the required band score? Will I not be granted the visa?

Is anyone doing the Bridging Course at ACFE?....anybody?....I haven't read any post or comments about this school in this forum.

filipino nurses, there are jobs for you if you strive harder. whenever i go to nsw health jobs, there are lots of job advertisements (for those with minimum 12months exp). when you get a job in an nsw public hospital, the sponsor will always be nsw health, whatever hospital that is. but those hospitals who are willing to hire overseas nurses are in western nsw and eastern sydney mostly, based from my experience. i have validated this from RNs who are locals and from those coming from UK, Ireland and India. another thing i've validated is there are few new grad positions for local graduates, but still there are many RN positions to fill in by experienced nurses. this is 100% true as of april-sep2011. don't know about the changes now. i am encouraging you to apply in nsw bec we are so understaffed (meaning the 1:4 is not followed) and probably there are no or few jobs for overseas nurses outside nsw. i am saying this from the perspective of a volunteer nurse with little experience who did a bridging and eventually got a job in sydney.

in the end, believe what you want to believe. say what you want to say.

Hi everyone,

I agree with ceridwenRN about NSW hospitals being understaffed. Just got done with the 1st week of clinical placements at a private hospital 80kms north of sydney. Oh boy, the 1:4 ratio is not followed. RNs are overworked. The staff are so happy that there are 8 BP students are there assigned to different wards for 5 weeks. I haven't met any staff that is not complaining about the hospital being understaffed. That is not to say though that the hospital is hiring. I like the area. Not crowded like sydney and it's only an hour's train ride away from the city proper. The standard of living is not as expensive also as the city center. The patients are mostly elderly. I'm assigned to the cardiac critical care ward where patients undergo various cardiac operations like pacemaker insertions, angiograms, and angioplasties. Anyway, 4 more weeks to go. I am now considering my options and scouting for possible job vacancies in the area. Not discounting Melbourne and Brisbane as well. Will be back in Melbourne for the final assessment after sydney. will visit my cousin in Brisbane after the BP.

Anyway, God bless everyone who are still on the application process with AHPRA. And God bless everyone who might be in the process of job application. I met a few RN's who went to IHNA for their BP. There was this one girl who found work as an ER nurse in Frankston, Melbourne. Got interested with her case because I have about 2 yrs work experience in the ER back home. She got sponsored for PR immediately after 6 months of working with the hospital. Just try your best to give a good impression in the clinical placements because they will be your useful reference in the CV. Ciao. :D

Oh God! I am about to lodge my business visa 456 application. I took my IELTS last October 22, 2011. Same as you dimplednurse. My BP will commence on 9th of January at IHNA. Maybe the case manager will accept an IELTS result with score of 6 on it. If they wont, that is what I dread the most. I am not confident that I can get a flat 7 IELTS result last exam since I messed up in my Writing and Reading Tasks.
