New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

World Registration

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

Did u pay for their pre-bp on line course??? I saw it´s AUD$ 500 and it´s mandatory.....

Could u enroll without it???:uhoh3:

not yet. but it is indeed mandatory to take the said online course. it is ok with me since i already got the offer letter.

there's very few nursing (RN) students in the ward. maybe it's really true that nursing studies is not really that popular with aussie locals...hehe don't know about non-nsw states. so filipino nurses, new south wales is waiting for you! there's not much job in other states according to unreliable gossip :)

Hope they are advertising for nurses interstate as well as local so that you are not so short staffed in a quick time as there are many RN's looking for full time hospital work here.

There are more student nurses than ever before, student nurses are only placed in hospitals in uni time it is now the end of the academic year so there will not be so many students nurses if any around.

hopefully we all gonna make it there, thanks for lifting our spirits to strive harder for our dreams... this message is really a boost:yeah::yeah::yeah::)

You are obviously new to a foreign country ceridwenRN. Just because you saw 'few nursing students' in the ward doesn't mean anything. Ask the RNs you have worked with what the job situation is. Check your local paper and see how many ads there are for RNs, pay particular attention to ads with 'willing to sponsor' and such. Then comeback to this thread and post what you have discovered instead of posting UNRELIABLE GOSSIP from people who post like myself who live and work as a nurse in Australia.

I'm not trying to discourage anyone from their OZ dream but its better to be aware of the facts before you spend your dough. Remember you will be arriving in Australia with a student visa and not a work visa. That's not a guarantee job security. See what happened to those Filipinos who went to UK on a student visa, here's the link

hello everyone,

I just want to ask about the immunization/vaccination requirements. In my case, there is no way that I can retrieve my immunization record of my childhood. Is there any other way to fulfill the vaccination requirements from the school?:uhoh21:

filipino nurses, there are jobs for you if you strive harder. whenever i go to nsw health jobs, there are lots of job advertisements (for those with minimum 12months exp). when you get a job in an nsw public hospital, the sponsor will always be nsw health, whatever hospital that is. but those hospitals who are willing to hire overseas nurses are in western nsw and eastern sydney mostly, based from my experience. i have validated this from RNs who are locals and from those coming from UK, Ireland and India. another thing i've validated is there are few new grad positions for local graduates, but still there are many RN positions to fill in by experienced nurses. this is 100% true as of april-sep2011. don't know about the changes now. i am encouraging you to apply in nsw bec we are so understaffed (meaning the 1:4 is not followed) and probably there are no or few jobs for overseas nurses outside nsw. i am saying this from the perspective of a volunteer nurse with little experience who did a bridging and eventually got a job in sydney.

in the end, believe what you want to believe. say what you want to say.

hi nursenathalie, i emailed ahpra 1st week of october and they said that university of ballarat is not accredited. i don't know about aaon.

how come? i asked the registration officer at ahpra and she told me to go to this page

http://www.nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au/accreditation.aspx

in the approved programs of study pdf, university of ballarat is still listed as accredited bp provider.

Hi Stereo!

I was pretty much confused, too and double-checked AHPRA´s website because both WLI and AAON are providers of the Uni of Ballaratand I wanted to apply for both of them as spaces are filling fast for the first intakes of 2012.

I emailed AHPRA again because AAON representative told to me togo to the same page you showed here....

Have u applied in others chools too???

I see. Thanks for replying!

And is it still truth that half the course is given in Vic and half the course in Perth?:uhoh3:

Some months ago I met some forumers on this thread who underwent bp at IHNA and had to do this....

Hi nathalie,

I've sent my application to WLI because IHNA requires a current (up-to-present) working experience. IHNA told me to undergo pre-BP course first. So I'd rather choose WLI. Still waiting for the result though. There is no application fee. Tuition fee is $12000 in 2012. Course is Feb 2012.

Which PB Provider do you plan to apply?
