New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

hi cioman94,

the skills assessment is being asked in the CV.

"You must also attach certified copies of any results or performance reports from bridging courses undertaken, skills assessment, observership (as applicable) that have been stated in the CV."

Aargh! I still can't find a bank that can transfer Philippine Peso to ANZ! How will I pay VCHN?? Most banks that I have inquired into said that I need to open a dollar account with them in able for me to do the bank to bank transfer. Any suggestions, buddies?

go to ANZ bank and it's in Manila. I think in Makati. they can do your money transfer even though you don't have any account there.

maybe because they look down on the education system in the philippines? (which in reality, is really poor) hehehehe. can't blame them though if this is the reason hahahaha! *sigh* this is so degrading for the nth time ahihi! :nurse:

education in the Philippines, i think, is better compared here in Australia. I am a student here and i can see the difference. :)

thanks, this answers my question.. guess you are right.. ive heard somewhere in this thread from applicants that they did not really provide such details..

just now i realize, therefore, when we ask for a SOS, we should try to ask also for a certified copy of the job description.. as manny pacquiao said, "now you know.."..

can you give me the details of your job description in your SoS?

I thought it's only the information whether you're full time or part time and the number of hours you've worked.

Am i right?

Glioblastoma,

Although you may seem to be an interesting fellow at times and I can sense that you can be quite helpful to new comers in the forum, I just hope you would at least be a bit more considerate about Filipino nurses in general. If you think your Philippine education is "poor" then I am so sorry for you. Perhaps you would have flunked IELTS, NLE and NCLEX for that matter. The thing is you passed right? NCLEX and IELTS are not solely for Philippine standards. Let me tell you something. If and when you finally get to Australia, you will find that the country and education system that you often ridicule is not really that bad. Thing is, theory wise, everything that is being taught here is just the same as what we are being taught there. We just lack the technology in the Philippines and some institutions do not follow strict guidelines when it comes to clinical practice. It is even common for english speaking countries to fail IELTS because of incorrect grammar, use of slangs and spelling.

I mean, c'mon. If you sincerely believe that you have crap knowledge and garbage education to begin with, then why the hell do you even apply outside your country and think that you can be assessed positively? The reason why they have bias against 3rd world countries is purely bureaucracy in nature. You among others should be more confident and proud especially of what you have achieved and not put your own into shame. If I were an Aussie reading your comments, or if I were your case manager in AHPRA, you think I will give you positive assessment when in fact you yourself broadcast to the whole world that you had "poor" education? And you are so impatient with your application. You send them today and you expect you have answers tomorrow.

Well, my apologies. Just had to say this because it's not the first time you keep putting down Filipinos. You say things that may be regarded as degrading and demeaning to most. Just say next time that "I want to hook up with a Caucasian and get my citizenship; I had poor educational background..." Something to that effect. Just don't generalize.

Thanks kristeeta. But as I have posted days ago, ANZ Bank in Manila charge way too high! Their transaction fees makes me crazy! I'm need to cash out almost 51,000Php for 1,000 AUD. And to think, that was when the buying rate is Php41.60. (Selling rate is Php44), so how much more today!?? Their buying rate as of today is Php42.25 so I'm pretty sure their selling rate went up as well. Hmmm...

isobelle, the last time you mentioned that you were able to talk to someone in ANZ about this.. i too believe that the charges were a bit high such that i have doubts on the accuracy of that someone whom you talked to.. if only you are near to ANZ, it would really be better to talk to them personally.. in effect, perhaps that someone committed a human error in making computations, which is not impossible.. as kristeeta said, she had a transaction with ANZ which doesn't really cost that much than yours.. check it out, my gut feel tells me something else..

yes you need to open a dollar account as you mentioned (except if you have a friendship banker then that can be done easily)..

good luck..

got an email from AHPRA NSW yest regarding my applcation. im just confused though... how come it said in the email that "we are awaiting the qualification standard for international applicants educated in the Philippines."? enlighten me please.. anyone

hi hay,

put it this way, in the context that AHPRA is still in the transition mode... therefore there are still policies that they are refining and creating, which we had been discussing here when we say that "we have to wait and see..for any precedent case... etc. etc."..

in other words, the nursing board is currently studying what "standards" or policies that they will set in order to have a clear, uniform and consistent basis of assessing Philippine nursing applicants.. since the board has not yet finished their review, hence, the Phil. applications are put on hold as they are "awaiting the qualification...blah blah blah.."..

so, just wait, besides the situation applies to all Phil. applicants, not just you..

good luck just the same.. pray it helps..

Am i right?

im sorry kristeeta.. as i had posted, it was only now that i learn about it, i.e. skills assessment, SOS with job description.. i don't have a pending application with ahpra..

anyway to answer this matter of that portion "Clinical / Procedural Skills":

- BLS ACLS, you may include this and attach your Certificate.

- IV Therapry, same as above..

- Standard First Aid Training... same..

- Disaster Nursing Training... same..

- ET Insertion Training

- Renal Dialysis Training (like in Manila where some centers offer 1 month trainng).

- Chemotherapy Administration Training

- Manual Handling Training

can you think of other stuff?? the thing is, you must have the certificate which will be the proof of your formal training and competency of such "procedures"..

moreover, it would be better to also request for a certification from your hospital that you normally and regularly perform certain procedures, like suctioning, catheterization, etc.. meaning, make a list of such procedures and have the head nurse sign it.. as long as it is true, then nothing to be afraid of..

just remember, it is better to send "excess" documents that be lacking.. assuming they will disregard any one or two of the above, then so what, it is better than writing nothing at all, besides the truth is you know how to do a procedure then you can sleep at night..

good luck..
