New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

World Registration

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

hi again xekie... i called redcross today about the senior first aid certificate.. well its the same BLS with Standard first aid.. they have it in quezon city chapter every week starting monday to saturday (6 days). you just have to go to thier office to register and pay 1,700 pesos. just try to call the chapter nearest to ur location, I think all the chapters are providing it.

hayyyyyyyssssss.... 1 week leave to do this hehehehe, do u think other BP schools also need this requirement? I am having a headache hehehehe

hmmm about the ielts, mine will expire next yr (april) so i will surely retake it. im having seconds thoughts if i should do the exam again before the end of this year so i woudnt have any problems anymore if they ask it.

well, goodluck to us!!! keep posting any updates ... thanks!

yes all major PNRC chapters offer it... FYI.. i had BLS ALS and Standard First Aid training with PNRC.. I also had

BLS ACLS training there in the phils. from a provider accredited by American Heart Assoc... these trainings will also be beneficial to you as they form part of your resume during job hunting..

how can this be done? can this "extension" be requested during application of visa?

when applying for 456 visa, tick the box/choice "with further stay".... you can only apply for extension of you visa later on, when needed, but of course you present your justifications so that you will be approved..

Their intake is mid-year, right? So you will take it next July?

yes! July of 2012, hopefully. I'm taking the 1 year BP at Flinder's in Adelaide. how about you?

Good News to those RNs who cannot get straight 7.0 in their IELTS exam.

I'm currently taking my bridging program at the College of Nursing and most of my classmates did not take their IELTS (Filipinos, Nepalese, Chinese, South African and Indians) they just passed certificates that ENGLISH was the medium of instruction of their secondary and tertiary education to AHPRA. They were all granted eligibility letters. However, as stated by my classmates at first, CON was apprehensive of accepting students without IELTS but these students stood up and fight for their rights. Their argument was that AHPRA already recognized their English as acceptable in terms of their years of education using English as medium of instruction. I think they emailed their case officer from AHPRA about the matter. Their case officer sent a letter to CON to allow them to enter the bridging course. Due to this, I think they will be more lenient to those without IELTS but with AHPRA eligibility letter.

to all...

1) this is a fact based on actual experience and so i believe we should accept this information... just please take note that this happened in CON (not Flinders, ETEA, Mercy Health, etc.)... so do not assume everything or do not immediately apply this fact to everything.. this is only in CON and i believe this information, i do not argue with this information.. Remeber that the AHPRA Case Officer sent a letter to CON as mentioned above..

2) things to ponder..... AHPRA requires 3 mos. experience only... Other BP schools require 6 mos. to 2 years experience... Anyone of you here wanna tell your case officer to send a letter to allow you to enter BP in a school which requires let say 1 year experience eventhough you only have let say 6 mos. experience? if a case officer can force/convince CON to accept applicants without IELTS, i hope a case officer can force/convince a BP school to accept applicants with just 6 mos. experience in a BP school requiring 1 year experience..

3) things to speculate...... CON may be lenient later on when it comes to IELTS requirements.. but they may become strict by demanding 1 year experience... or after consulting with a lawyer, the CON may insist that they have the right to require IELTS in the same manner that they have the right to require certain level of experience (which other BP schools are doing)....

4) warning..... DIAC is different from AHPRA.. It may "pattern" its rules/requirements with AHPRA but it can also deviate from it.. a simple example, AHPRA recognizes 3 mos. "volunteer" experience for processing nursing registration.... DIAC does not recognize and does not give "points" for volunteer experience (if you apply for skilled migration).. see, sometimes they agree, sometimes they differ..

remember that every July, DIAC issues new rules... if right now, you have a student/456 visa, by the time you will apply for 457 visa, there may be new rules that may or may not affect you, but what if by that time DIAC insist strictly for you to have IELTS 7, then you cannot use "ahpra rules" as justification..

at the end of the day, it is a gamble... prayer is needed in this crossroad.. cheers!

Hi guys! I just want to ask if anyone here who already got their eligibility had difficulty contacting their registration officer during processing? I tried to call mine several times but I only reach her answering machine. She does not respond to my recent emails as well. Is this normal or must this be a cause for alarm? It's been almost 6 months now since I lodged my application : (

Hi earubi. Don't fret about your case officer not returning your calls or answering your emails. It's practically the norm with AHPRA Victoria. I don't know with other states though. In my case, I practically left numerous voice mails and email messages pleading for acknowledgement to no avail. I think case officers, especially in Victoria, are swamped by all the domestic and overseas applications. Please understand that they give priority to domestic applications and renewals first. They also give preferential attention to applications from NZ, UK, Canada, US, Singapore, and other EU States. So, we Filipinos are relegated to the back burner, so to speak. I got my AHPRA eligibility after 7 months. They are also very stringent as to their requirements and somewhat bookish. You can read my previous posts on my personal experience with AHPRA.

I hope to have allayed your anxieties, concerns, fears....etc. Just have a lot of faith and patience. ;);)

thanks for the suggestion erikadioza!

for those who had bridging visas while waiting for their registrations,

may i ask what are the requirements for the bridging visa? can i apply it by myself or need to have an employer to do it for me? thanks in advance...

ok thanks.

i have a sister who is already a PR in Aus so hopefully the embassy would put that into consideration

why opt for that?

cant you gain at least 3 months experience before july 2012?

I actually have 5months volunteer experience already, but i don't feel like going for the 3-month BP. I'm worried i might not get a sponsor for a working visa in that short span of time .. so maybe taking the 1 year BP could give me enough time.

Thank you for giving me that ray of hope I badly need these days. I have seen your posts and I applaud your faith and optimism. This is indeed a long and tedious process. A test of patience too! Anyway, what do you think? Should I just wait in peace or keep pestering/bombarding them with emails and calls asking for feedback re status of my application? :D I better keep calm and silently wait and hope and pray for a positive outcome eh?

anyone with me for ETEA October intake ^.^
