Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses
> Congratz Girlashh! It's nice to hear good news these days. Some of my acquaintances found it hard. Some said there were job openings, but it's hard to find jobs that would sponsor. And their visa time was limited. Where did you take your bp? And if you don't mind, can you tell us what state in Australia did you and your friends found work?
I'm in NSW, my batchmates are in Victoria and Isobelle, which I met here, was hired in Canberra while still waiting for her registration.
Thanks Girlashh. Can you give me some tips for the bridging program?.. :)
My advise for the BP is to read ahead before every class. The instructors would give you the topics to be discussed and they will ask questions during classes. It is not like college that they would teach everything but it's more like a refresher course. Having an Australian Drug book is helpful too, not the American drug book but the Australian because it is very different.:)
Based from my experience in job hunting, I didn't expect that it would be easy; however, it was for me and all my batchmates in the BP. We all landed jobs and I still get called for interviews. Maybe we are just lucky, but for those aspiring nurses who want to work here, don't be afraid because there are heaps of job opportunities, may it be in the acute setting or aged care. Before coming here, I was skeptical because I was afraid I wouldn't find a job because I only have 1 year experience in the ward areas. So for you guys who have more experience that I do, surely it would be a breeze to land a job.
You're an inspiration Girlashh. Now I'll be putting more effort in completing my documents needed by AHPRA, in that way I can take the BP soon :)
Hi everyone,
I'm a new member but i'd been reading forums on this site for some time now.
I am planning to take the BP with VCHN (since they offer more slots i guess). Like most Filipinos, it is such a big risk for me to take the Bridging Program without the certainty of landing a job soon after finishing the BP and getting the registration from AHPRA. To add that I'm planning of getting a loan from a financial firm with an interest of 3%/mo.. it gets riskier. It's way too high I know. But that said firm is tied-up with the consulting firm I'm with..I know I don't need a consulting firm, but then, they will take care of all the expenses for my BP.
With that said, I am hoping you guys can tell me if I got my figures below right.
20,000 AUD - total expenses for the 3 mo. BP, which will be my principal for the loan (includes AHPRA fees, Tuition, Airfare, living expenses for 3 mos., incurred interest for 3mos., Consultation fee, miscellaneous fees.)
4,400 AUD? - gross monthly income (Is this possible to achieve for a hard working newly registered nurse in Oz, taking into consideration 1 year practice in ICU as a full time volunteer nurse)
1,400 AUD? - compulsory monthly deductions from the above salary (resulting to a net income of 3,000 AUD)
1,400 AUD - living expenses/month..350 AUD/week - (it's possible to live on this budget right?
so that leaves me with 1,600 AUD.. say, the 20K is payable for 22 mos, that would be aprox 910 AUD/mo. + 600 AUD for the interest, that leaves me with 90 AUD as savings.
Now, I can live with that for 2 years, it's totally fine with me as long as i know I'll be able to pay off my debt. That is, if my figures are right.
The reason I am posting this, is I really need your help to correct me, if ever I got it all wrong. And perhaps there are members who are in Oz right now who went through the same process that I'm planning to take...
I'd been reading a lot of discussions but I'm still not sure if the above numbers are correct. I really appreciate your responses on this matter. Thanks in advance :)

I get this money and I am a clinical nurse consultant with 15 years experience, and work in the government sector, private nursing homes or aged care pay much less.
You did also mention gross, so therefore you need to calculate the tax, Australia is the highest taxed country in the world so you can take off about 350-400 dollars from this amount of money that you will take home.
It is about 20-23 dollars an hour for nurse with very little experience and an overseas in ICU may not be recognised as many of our ICU nurses to be recognised have a post grad cert or post grad dip. from a uni in ICU to be paid this sort of money. No Post grad degree, you do not get paid more than a nurse on a general ward.
Some states pay double time on sunday......that may get you up to this money.....but then you go to higher tax bracket and pay more tax.....and you usually work as rostered....you may get 1 sunday every fortnight in a pay...with is always forthnightly. work on about 18 dollars extra every evening and about 40 every nightshift extra, then the dreaded tax.

I meant advice
thank you so much Ceridwyn for answering my questions..now I only have one option left migrate to Oz as skilled immigrant and force the Oz government to pay my BP:)
which is correct here ?
1. migrate > BP > Register in AHPRA > Job hunting
2. Register in AHPRA> migrate > BP > Job hunting
Honestly speaking I don't have a million to spend in BP
again, pls read page 01.. the answer and explanation are there..
