New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

careful in filling up your TFN form.. the thing is your income tax should only be around 20-22% or at most in certain instances (but not always) around 25%..

if you have around 30% tax deduction.. then something wrong in how you filled up the TFN form.. okey?

Thanks a lot for all of these useful information.

So here's my plan, I'm gonna process my AHPRA general registration, all the info I need is provided here anyway to accomplish that..that's gonna save me a lot of dough..

And for my bridging program expenses, I'll just talk to my dad about it, I'm sure we can get a loan from a bank or an institution that offers an interest of not more than 2% a month.

Thanks again :)

Hi,

I went to an agency which helps in assessing applicants for migrating to Australia.

they mentioned that a BP is not necessary if you have work experience as a Nurse already. I just want to clarify some questions.

-Is it true that if you have working experience for more than 1 year, you don't need to take this bridging course?

-Do you have to take the ANMC licensure exam for foreign nurses?

thank you

Tell this agency to go take a hike. The only agency that should be assessing nurses for Australia is the National midwifery and Nurses Board.. in Australia.mmmmmmm

and yes, you do need to do a bridging course of some kind if your nursing education has been in the Phillipines. see other post.

@ceridwyn

I don't think they are familiar with AHPRA

since they help with the filing of visas and assessing if you qualify for 1.

Well then, they should not be telling nurses from overseas, big porky's like no bridging course if 1 year experience and national exams with ANAMC if they do not have a clue, this knowledge is extremely important when applying for visas.

Fancy being an immigration agent for nurses to come to Australia and not know about AHPRA.

You can only get independent skilled migration visa if assessed as job ready by ANAMC. You will only get a job ready assessment if trained in the Phillipines and no work experience in western countries if already a registered nurse in Australia.

Nah keep clear

hmmm. I will take note on that.

1) regarding registration this is the form which I will need to submit to AHPRA

"Application for general registration (graduated or trained overseas) as a Registered Nurse, Enrolled Nurse or Midwife - AGOS-04 (1.26 MB,PDF)"

---------------------------

2) are these the curent fees?

Application for general registration

115

Fee for annual renewal of provisional registration

115

Overseas assessment charge

220

that's a better plan... if possible, get a loan with repayment term of 4 years so that it will ease up your monthly loan repayment requirement (as compared to a shorter term loan, i.e. 2 years).. then, you will not have a tight budget.. i used my credit card which requires me only minimum amount of payment per month and i fully paid it only when i have saved enough money..

If I were you, I'm going to run away from these obviously bogus agents. They are definitely SCAM artists. They don't even know the basic information. If I was going to try to make money out of hapless Filipino nurses wishing for the ozzie dream, I should do my home work and make a good presentation. They obviously are NOT professional scammers. :lol2::yeah::uhoh3:

Hi everyone. I'm a newbie here and I hope to seek help/advise from you guys, if you don't mind. :)

You see, this is my current situation.

I recently acquired my NY license 2 weeks ago. I did Ca NCLEX in 2007 but had to endorsed it last year to NY before it expired. I also did IELTS in 2008 and had my VisaScreen Cert in 2009.

I'm turning 30 this year, was a second courser, and has absolutely zero nursing experience since I haven't been practicing since I graduated. I'm currently working in a different field. I don't have any agency since a relative sponsored all my exams.

I really have no idea what to do next. Should I apply for an agency? I don't even know any good agencies and/or if they would accept me since I lack experience.

It just makes me sad to have an NY license and can't do anything about it. :crying2:

Hi Boinky,

You have to gain work experience as an RN in any related field but preferrably hospital environment. Both Australia and NZ nursing boards require at least 3 months full time work experience as prerequisite. Most BP schools in Aus require at least 1 year work experience. NZ schools require 2 years. 30 is still young enough to start acquiring these prerequisites. You also have to have at least 7 in all bands of the IELTS test. You can retake the IELTS just before you lodge your application. I warn you that you need a lot of money if you want to register and practice your profession in Australia. NZ is a lot cheaper but you will have a very hard time looking for BP schools and work afterwards. There is a glut there now. I should know because I myself have tried it and my NZ eligibility is already about to expire this July without any school available. My friends who graduated BP last Dec had a very hard time looking for jobs.

Anyway, Australia is still better in terms of job prospects but you have to hurry up. There is not much of other choices now considering the tightening of employment prospects in US, Canada, NZ, UK, Ireland. Some of my friends opted to apply for the middle east. But then you still don't have any work experience as RN. I suggest you start from there.
