New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

Part 1 thread New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand - Nursing for Nurses

It would seem yet just another muck up by AHPRA, maybe, as Joiemike said, email going to everybody that has application pending, probably wanting to expedite registrations of people with employment offers.

They already muck up english requirements constantly.

Wonder if it was only from the Victorian office? and only applications that are being assessed there?

got the same letter from AHPRA today...I also have no employer waiting for me in Australia...If I answer "NO" to their query I fear that the assessment of my application would not be given priority compared to those who already have. It would mean a longer waiting period before I would be given an eligibility letter...any advice?

Just look at it on the bright side. The delay can be the worst thing that can happen to your application. But at least, your application won't be denied if you don't have an employment offer.

Yey me for I've just finished reading this whole thread from page 1! Though i need to do more research, I definitely learned a lot.

I'm hoping I could get some advice. If say I don't have enough cash to pay for the whole expense to take the bridging course would it be feasible if I go to Australia on student visa and study certificate 3 on aged care first? Then earn the money for bp there? Or would it be wise to just look for the money here in the Philippines first then proceed directly to bp? I was hoping to find the least expensive way to start my career in Australia.

Hello everyone.. Can i work as PCA even if i dont have a certificate in aged care.. I will be going to australia under student visa.. I will be studying bachelor of nursing at deakin.. I'm a registeres nurse here in the Philippines.. Thanks..

I do not think it feasible to stay in a country after studying a course that is not on the list of needed occupations especially only a cert 3.

Thanks ceridwyn!

Is it ambitious to think that the pay from the 20 hr/wk allowed work enough to earn the money I need to go through bp? or I should completely forget about this option altogether? :)

This option is not feasible. You won't be able to save anything for the BP because you still have to spend for your living expenses and the tuition fee for your cert 3 course.

As a pca student how could you work and study at the same time, with shift work? Only allowed to work 20 hours a week, flat out living expenses at $400.00 a week and after course......I do not think pca is a skill that Australia has on the needed skill list, so therefore being allowed to work as a pca and stay in Australia after the course would be a problem, unless you are being sponsored by a relo but you still need to have the needed skill to be allowed to work.

ps. Where does a pca get $20.00 an hour? thats the same as a first year RN working in aged care. PCA course would not be that cheap neither.

Advice, find money at home....no one knows how long vacancies are going to remain open in Australia with the constant nursing immigration and out of that what restrictions they may bring in, it can change from day to day, best to get in quick with bridging course and nurses registration. Just my 2c worth.

i mean student visa holders are allowed to work for 20 hours per week not $20 per hour. thank you so much for you input. :)

Hello guys,

Just want to share this email I received from AHPRA VIC this morning because I'm really confused and bothered if what does it mean. I don't have yet an Employment offer in OZ since I'm still in the process of applying for eligibility to register as a nurse and I'm afraid they might not approve my application since I don't have yet an employment offer.

Kindly share your ideas about this and please give me some advise.

Thank you in advance =)

"Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your application for general registration. As an international qualified nurse / midwife, we would like to inquire if you have an employment offer from a health service organisation in Australia.

If you have been offered a position, please provide a scanned copy of your letter of offer with your AHPRA reference number on the email provided below. Your reference number was provided to you on the Preliminary Assessment email you received from AHPRA.

Please note that we cannot respond to any registration queries that are not related to the confirmation of an offer for employment. When we receive your letter for permanent employment, we will confirm the information from the heath service organisation to verify your employment.
