Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.
Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

hi everyone, can anyone tell me when the CAS (or the challenge test in Queensland) was
abolished. My cousin who is a doctor there told me to take it. I did tell him
though that from what i read its already scrapped off. Can anyone give me a
link that shows its been removed and that the only way is to study
(ex. bp,conversion program etc.),in which off course you have various
options .I just need to convince my dad, that the challenge test does not
exist anymore.
thank you very much
Hi,
The challenge test your cousin is referring to was part of the program of the Queensland Nursing Council (QNC) for those foreign nurses wishing to be licensed in Queensland. I know because I tried applying for this with QNC last Feb 2010. Sadly, they stopped accepting applications by then because of the transition to AHPRA.
AHPRA has nationalized the licensing of health care practitioners including nursing. This started July 2010. So, all the nursing boards of different states have a uniform protocol for issuing licenses to nurses including those from foreign countries. And there is only one way based on the AHPRA guidelines. You can read it in their website.
As for me, I would like to share with everyone that I just received a communication from my registration officer from Victoria. She is asking for some outstanding documents from my school. I'ts very important for us to include the theoretical transcript of our nursing course subjects to include especially the total number of hours per subject. My school, incidentally, only gave the number of hours in my RLE. So, I'm going back to my school tomorrow to ask for this document. Have these photocopied again and certified by a notary public. My registration officer also advised me to notarize each and every page of all documents that I am submitting. She asked that I re-send all my TOR with the course syllabus and RLE and theoretical transcript with each and every page notarized/certified.
I know it's going to cost me a lot to do this again. I have about 80 to 90 pages all in all to send via fed ex. But at least I know that I am almost done with the ahpra requirement. She even gave me her direct line for me to call anytime for clarification or inquiries.
I'm gritting my teeth and bearing the long agony of waiting knowing that I am almost at the end of the deep dark tunnel. Almost having a glimpse of the light so to speak.

This happened to me before. I had to request for a detailed course description from my school [took the registrar 1 week to release the 100-page document], paid them 1,500 for the super detailed set of documents [course syllabus included], had it photocopied and certified, then sent via courier to QNC [yes, I applied to QNC as well]. This additional requirement costed me more than 5k php because of the certification and courier fee. Lucky for me my school already prepared a detailed course description for the nursing course because other former students who were interested in taking the NCLEX requested for one. Some schools have it, but it's not that detailed, others refuse to make one.
Cioman is right, prayers do help so keep praying and working for our goal.

Wow! Good for you! Hope you get your eligibility letter soon. :) So far, I still haven't received any e-mail from AHPRA. I sent my documents last February. Fortunately, I was able to confirm over the phone that they have receive dmy documents and also, the fee has alreadybeen charged in my credit card just this March. I double checked if they have my correct e-mail address and they do. I keep worrying why I haven't received any e-mails. All I can do right now is follow up and pray. Hoping we all get updates and our eligibility soon.

you said your cousing is a doctor here in australia, did i get it right? ask your cousin, "yo yo cousin, come the time your license will expire, where/what Australian government agency will you file your renewal?" .....the answer is AHPRA.. if he doesn't know that answer, geeeez, whew! what!! you're a professional doctor here and you do not know where to renew your license?! ...my point is he should know that AHPRA exist, and he should know the QNC no longer exist because of AHPRA, and why the goodness gracious is he recommending that CAS thing... at the end of the day, he/she will realize that AHPRA exist (no more CAS/QNC) and therefore he/she himself/herself could tell your dad the real thing..
cheers mate!!
