New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Hi. I have a question for those who had their documents notarized and certified. My lawyer did not write her address, and phone number. Will that be okay? She just placed, davao city philippines.. then the date and then her name & signature, stamp and the serial numbers etc. huhuhuuh!!!

I never said it will be like Philippines, I just said imagine how PRC is to see the downsides that may or may not go along with the change. :) We can never be too sure anyway that it will work out well too. Actually, it is still not polished. I've been talking to some regulating state boards (NSW, QLD) and they have really told me that they don't really know what will happen. There's no definite plan yet as to how things will be.

I was particularly concerned with this because I am planning to study. If things change, I will be affected for sure. I've raised my concerns to the Universities across Brisbane and Sydney too and they all said the same thing - they don't know. :( Anyway, I'm expecting the worst and hoping for the best.

i never said that you said that it will be like prc-philippines, but since you include pRC as an example, i used PRC too as a good example only.

yes thats expected. every regulatory board will have different stories...its them who are opposing for it to be implemented because they want their boards to remain, but the nurses here in australia are the ones keen of it to happen.

well, just like what the nurse supervisor told me, it will really take effect in 2010, and if there are problems that will come along the way, the national board authority will fix it. learning by mistakes.

it was expected to be implemented earlier than the target date, but its just very premature to implement it...so they adjusted the time frame and i think they already have enough time to settle things out.

i have visited some of the boards website, and it stated their 2010 is the target year, to be more specific, july 2010...

but like what you said, it will be chaotic at first, but as the time goes by, i think it will run smoothly.:D

btw, are you happy for this to be implemented? me? i am...ehehe.

Eeeeep... i don't know anything about that. wow sis you're always updated. anyway, i don't know what will happen in the future but i really hope we can all settle our issues first before they implement that rule. I guess it will be harder for overseas nurses specially new grads and those with no experience to find a job or even take the BP if this will happen. I hope they can delay its commencement by 2010 or 2012. atleast hopefully we are all settled by then.

i think so...some or few of the rules might change and new rules will be added...

you should be fast with your application...hehehe...

hi im originally from davao too...hehee

it depends what state are you applying.

Yeah well in the first place everything that we do here does not guarantee us of anything. but atleast we stand a fighting chance. its definitely better that they have the Practice Module to back us up once we fail test B. Its better than having nothing at all.

Besides look at the bright side. I'm sure if worse comes to worst and we fail test B and have to undergo the module, with proper training and practice i know we can pass it. We wouldn't want to let that module get in the way of our dreams right? :p You're lucky you're only waiting for your registration then you can already practice our dear profession, unlike most of us here we're having a hard time looking for prospective employers who can sponsor us after. so just relax and prepare yourself for the challenge tests.

am i lucky? not really...

thnaks for that "relax" thing...hehehe

yes but we have to pass part A...to be cost effective..and try our best to pass part b...

btw, are you going to do part b or just go directly to the clinical module?

yes...myself sent applications to QNC and NBV...so that would be alright if you send heaps of applications.theres no law or rules that prevents you from doing it.:)
