New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

Specializes in Neonatal Intensive Care.
hello rn oz. i'm also here in south australia just few miles from adelaide. can you pm your ym or e-mail add? i've been to unisa and flinders last year but i'm still not feeling confident with my plans.

thanks and good day!:)

Guys my employer just called they will be forwarding the TRN of my nomination so i can commence my 457 application together with my dependents.Go for the bridging course guys.

In all fairness, I really envy you guys because you passed the IELTS and had no problem whatsoever with the scores.I on the other hand have to take it again because of the writing subtest.I lack a .5 in that subtest. Any advice for me when I take it again? It really bothers me a lot.

you can take pre registration programs or conversion program as what you're referring to.. it has a minimum of 6.0 in all subtests.. takes 1 and a half yr to complete the course for Bachelor of Nursing.. taking conversion program then shifting to BP mid-year.. would just be a waste of money.. your wasting 9K AUD just for that.. better decide what to take.. there are pros and cons for BP and pre registration (conversion) programs..

OET (occupational english test) might be an option for you rather than sitting again for IELTS. It may cost twice as IELTS but for sure, you'll have a better score. Nurses boards requires a grade of "B" in all subtest for OET..

i'm not sure if OET is offered here in the PH.....is OET is almost the same as IELTS? I'll consider this option if it is much easier compared to IELTS (esp. writing module).....

Yes OET is offered here but I believe it costs like 4 times the price of IELTS.

yup... much easier.. there's a testing center for OET in Manila.. but dunno where it is.. try to search in their website.. OET deals more on nursing/nurses per se.. some says for writing they are ask to write a referral letter for the patient.. so its probably easy.. BUT costly.. its cost 528 AUD here in Australia.. but for overseas it costs 775AUD
