New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

@ drednag: no word yet from nbv too here, bro, not even a response to my previous enquiry email stressing them the details of the courier's (fedex's) delivery of my application packet and its "supposed" receipt by the person in their office. as what was mentioned here, if we have all the details of the delivery and receipt and the name of the person who acknowledged receipt of our parcels, then that should somehow ease our angst.

we have the same timeline, bro as well as with newmac i think. nbv also told me via email correspondence that they have received my verification on 17 december 2009 whereas in fact tracking record shows it was received on the 16th according to prc so i am now optimistically assuming that if the board has already acknowledged receipt of newmac's application on 8 january 2010, ours should also have been acknowledged on or somewhat near that date (if our tracking report states that it was delivered and signed for last 15-16 december 2009). we can attempt to give them a ring, however, making an overseas call to a virtual switchboard with an infinite queue is not really promising considering the cost, too. :uhoh3:

by the way, it says here i'm not entitled yet to send/reply to pms as i am still technically "new" to the site so i hope this would suffice for the moment. let's keep our guards to whatever developments in our application, shall we?

hey, reiken830...good news...if your courier status report says the package was received by nbv along the same dates as mine was, i think nbv recieved our applications already... i surmised this to be so when i checked my credit card unstatemented transactions and i saw that nbv's application fee was already charged last january 10...:yeah::yeah::yeah: i guess now, we'll just have to wait for the next stage...hopefully, they got our ielts already...and hopefully our documents are on the up and up.... cheers!!!

yep, definitely good news, bro! i also called my credit card company and enquired of any charges that were made and yes, nbv has already charged me aud$145 (php 6, 216.33 to be precise) also on january 10. so, we can heave a sigh of relief for now knowing that they've already got our application and is now in process.

i've already attached a certified photocopy (notarized by a lawyer) of my ielts trf in my application as it was another option in the application checklist to just include a certified ielts trf photocopy. so, i am now just expecting an assessment letter from them anytime soon. by this time, i'm sure they've already received your ielts as well. :yeah::yelclap:

regardless of not getting any news from them, at least, knowing that there is work in progress in our application through our own initiatives, we can safely say that we're now on the roll and we have something positive to look forward to. hopefully, we can make it together along with newmac and the others who are also victoria-bound. keep the faith, guys!!!  :yelclap:

@drednag and reiken that's the spirit!!! woohoo!!!! im soooooo happy! (though i havent inquired about the receipt of my IELTS resulst) fell asleep last night!

so... should we be school hunting now? or will it spoil the future? i guess its not bad to anticipate actions... (i hope they wont ask me to make the stat dec - i hope none of us will)

so school? which ones are on your list? deakin is out [?] unless they extend their closing date, bendigo's closing date is dependent on the applications and the second intake starts on june 2010, ETEA as mentioned by ryan09 is the dearest [for him - i dont really know what that means] havent heard much from this institution, they have earlier dates (april etc... -if you want to go to oz ASAP) -i prefer a uni as much as possible -i wanna feel like a student once again! :p

how about u guys?

no youre alright :) all good...

just had our orientation today...and guess what ? filipinos dominated the class:yeah:..hahaha...there are 10 filipinos in our class...and the others are africans and indians...

and just had my blood tested today...and will have an influenza vaccination later...

wish me luck guys and gals...:)

wow!! jealous of the many Filipino classmates :lol2: :jester: that would mean more Filipino food during lunch time. hahah.. Well, ive been trying on Indian food from my classmates.

just got home from first day at the aged care. watching Australian open now hahahah...

Good luck to all of us, Ryan!

Thanks, NewMac!!! We have a good support system - we have one another, despite the fact that we're all actually strangers (but not for long, perhaps) :p to keep us going and to finally get through this whole process. :D

Now, let's keep our fingers crossed that the Board would go straight into sending out our assessment letters and no longer require us to send any supplementary documents (statutory declaration, in depth TOR description and the like). ;)

For school, Deakin in Burwood is my first choice for its proximity to Melbourne. So, I'm hoping I could still make it (well, I hope we all could make it if Deakin is also you and drednag's priority) prior to its application deadline on the 25th. Now, La Trobe in Bendigo, although farther from Melbourne by approximately 2 hours by train as what was mentioned by chabeli I think, is the likely better alternative should things not go as originally planned. But it would be better if they decide to put up a better location in Bundoora should I decide to go to La Trobe. :D

I don't see ETEA in NBV's accredited BP providers, does anyone know why is it so? Anyway, ETEA's BP program is steep at AUD$10,600 apart from the AUD$150 application fee so I infer that's how ryan09 put it - dearest... to our pockets. Hehe! ;)

i still dont know what to do for my health status check for CURTIN WA.. hope i can find someone who already did this prior to commencement of study... i dont know where to start... :crying2:

@reiken do we have other options? any other institutions? i tried doin a research with NBV's approved course providers... but they dont provide straight forward details... except deakin, la trobe, ballarat, mt. alexander, and there's one more, forgot the name!

@chabeli you're lucky you dont have to stay up late to watch OZ OPEN. :( hows the weather?

MMR, DPT, HepB, influenza, varicella plus MRSA swab and Tuberculin testing.. do u have an application to curtin?

Yes i do. Are you going to attend this 1st sem of 2010?

Thanks. When are you going to attend the BP?

I can help you with that. I'm attending the bp this feb. Orientation will start Feb 15. I'm leaving Feb 1. Just complete your immunization. The health status check/forms will be done during prep week and orientation week. I think the deadline is around March. :)

Hi, NewMac and Reiken...like you guys, my first choice is Deakin. Next choice whould be La Trobe. ETEA is actually in the list of bridging course providers accredited by NBV. Whichever of the 3 is really okay with me as long as I can start the bridging course.:yelclap: By the way, I emailed St. Vincent Mercy Private, and they replied that they will not run the course in 2010...So, there just a few course providers for us to choose from...

Whatever it will be, hopefully we will all be classmates. Good to know we have a strong support system between us.. this forum is really good!!!:yelclap::thankya:

I had to send new documents since they asked for additional info regarding my commencement date. Hope i get to join the train going to NBVs Bridging program. As of the moment how many bridging course provider are still available? I know there used to be a list but I was hoping if someone could provide info again.

Does Ramsey still offer it ?
