Hi everyone, please help me.
I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.
Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.
That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.
However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.
I already have my bachelors degree here.
When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?
After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?
Thank you!
ahoo! this is really getting hot!may i ask something? esp those in VIC
after doing the BP course on student visa. The next step is to get a job/employer/sponsor, right? (a stage that may be hard for others but not for some, i suppose)
and the student visa will then be converted to residence permit, right? is this the procedure?
not really after, but during...
you can start looking for a sponsor while doing the program...
as far as i know, most of the nurses' visa will be converted to working visa or nurses opted to apply for a working visa...
im open to any corrections...thanks
hi!I'm new here and I am planning to apply for a registration in NBV.
Does it mean that you first pass your application form and documents and
wait till they ask you to take the pre-registration course?
thank you so much!
you got it right! :)
you cant enrol into a briging program if you havent got the letter from the board stating that you are already eligible to do the course...:)
hi blinq.. very well said... i hope we can talk more about your knowledge to our chosen path.. im still waiting for some papers thats why i dont have d letter of eligibilty yet.. but i hope to have it before january.. ill be lodging the remaining papers next week.. i was told that i can do the program even if i dont have experience since im a fresh graduate.. hehehe...
exactly!!!you can not find a job if you dont persevere...no one will hire you if do not exert an effort even if you havent got an experience..just come to think of newly graduate australian trained nurses and yourself, we are in the same boat, do you think they also have an experience? so dont be scared and have these preconceptions of not having a job as this will pull you back of the long qeue (if i may say)...
@kit25, as far as i know, australia is not in recession, and one of the strongest if not the strongest developed nation in the world, so please lets not make the economy of australia to be the reason why some nurses wouldnt be able to find jobs. as far as i know, nurses are still in demand in australia, in fact (during the philippine fiesta in melbourne) ive read in a newspaper (philippine times-circulated in melbourne/victoria) that nursing shortage is the most critical...
...
i agree with ryan's points.. in fact, i've been clamoring about the fast-rising australian dollar. when i started processing my papers around april it was just 37 something, then now it's already at 43 plus considering just the 7 months gap. from a forecast of 390k php for tuition it became 420k easily months later... good indication of a strong economy.
it is good though to consider reality checkpoints and recognize that the quest to land a job in australia is not gonna be as easy as 123, because at the end of the day, no job just falls from heaven like manna, we still need to find and look for jobs when we get there... the more i try, the more chances of landing one... nothing is hard to a persevering person :) let's go team! hahahahah.. see you in january.

if we cant really deny that the problem is the economy, well for me if the government of a nation is strongly struggling to find and hire health care professionals because of their ailing health care system then they will continue to look for people who can fill in the huge gap despite of the financial status of the country.
by the way my fellow nurses, have you heard about PMC Education and Training? their Philippine office is located at Midland Plaza Ermita Manila, ive spoken with the director who attended the philippine fiesta and he told me that they are helping filipino nurses to penetrate australia...their head office is in melbourne...to those who want their philippine telephone number please PM me...thanks
NOTE: im not selling this company. im just giving options to my fellow nurses...this agency was made through in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate Office in melbourne victoria...
Ryan!!!
Thank you so much for taking the time out to enlighten
clueless nurselings like us!!!:yeah:

Keep our spirits high!!!:yeah:

:) hows your application going by the way?
thank you ryan for the encouraging words, it really helps a lot! god bless and good luck to all filipino nurses!
be encouraged always...ty :)
ive been here in australia for years now.and i beg to disagree..and im not here in allnurses to tell lies and nothing but lies...as what ive posted previous page ago, go to latrobe.edu.au or ring them for you to know it personally...im sure ive rang them a month or a month and a half ago to enquire about it...and you have misunderstood me, im talking about master of nursing not master of nursing sciencewell, if you think that thats only a hearsay, sorry but not for me...cos i confirmed it myself and im not insane not to understand our conversion with the personnel of latrobe...ring la trobe uni and ask them...
about the job thingy, maybe you are right, but most of the filipino nurses i know who have finished their BPs are already working here...so lets not generalize everything and everyone...each one of us are entitled to have their own opinion but not to generalize.. what i was trying to imply was my own knowledge and experience...and i respect yours...good luck.
FACTS:
1) There is no masters of nursing science or to quote you, masters of nursing in la trobe for a year even if you said you contacted them 2 months ago. I rang them today and there's no such thing offered. The BN conversion was previously offered for a year. You must be refering about that. Nursing curriculum in Australia is accredited by state nursing councils. La Trobe cannot offer it for a year while other Victorian universities do it for two years. I have asked you to post the link for everyone to see but there was no link posted. You must have to understand that giving the wrong information is just like giving the wrong medication to a patient. We have to be very careful of what we say as this might confuse readers.
2) Australia is not in recession but has been affected by the world economic downturn. There has been massive layoffs in the previous months up to now and the country is still in the recovery period. You are right that the Australian economy weathered the storm, one of the world's top performing economies. However, this does not mean that Australia has not been affected by the downturn. The meltdown has been worldwide. For information about job losses please check the Courier mail or google job losses in Australia.
3) While Australia is screaming for RNs, they are prioritizing nurses with experience especially those from the UK. New RNs graduating from Australian universities are hired through graduate programs. A newly grad from Australia is different from a newly grad from overseas. New RNs who completed their degree here had their rotations in Australian hospitals and facilities and as such have a greater advantage over international applicants. They have a clear and better picture of the Australia health care system and as such are hired immediately after graduation. An international student who completed their BN degrees in Australia can easily land a job but they have to pay at least $10,000 dollars every semester for 3 years. Even if we are better nurses compared to the domestic graduates as we may think, employers have the notion that their graduates are better equip and more knowledgeable compared to IENs in terms of the Australian nursing context.
3) This is not to discourage applicants as I myself has gone through all of these. This is to guide people and show the real and honest picture of venturing into the Australian dream. I have met fellow applicants including myself stucked after the bridging program, others went home so as not to expire their visa. I then say it again that it is difficult to find a job after the bridging program especially if you do not have enough experience, but it is not impossible. The economic downturn has affected the hiring capabilities of local employers. One must be prepared emotionally, spiritually and 'financially' as expenses in Australia can be skyrocketing at times especially during job hunting.
pplicants who are interested with the Australian Masters degree in nursing can read the previous pages from this thread as I believe Aelith had already provided a comprehensive review of the program.
If you have been offended, I apologize but I have to reiterate that this is not to spoil the atmosphere here or to discourage anyone. I am just laying the cards so everyone can have a better picture of what to expect. AND please let us not pretend to know everything as this forum is a healthy exchange of information. IF you are not sure of any information you post, please say you're not sure so as not to confuse people. Thank you and sorry for the long missive.
@kit25, i told you its maser of nursing NOT nursing science...
ahhh...this is getting worst...
believe what you believe and i will believe mine...
no further arguments...a lot of important things to be dealt with...
anyway, good luck to you...
guys and gals, just PM me if you want the PMC number...TY :) and please lets create and maintain a positive aura and atmosphere in this forum...

All masters of nursing including master of nursing science or master of nursing as you may say, run for 2 years full time study in any Australian university.
This is not an argument and yeah you are right that there are more important things to deal with and one of those is correcting some misconceptions and false information.
^^
true...and you should be corrected as well...
as you have been very discouraging...
lets take your previous post as an example...can you give us concrete proof that CAS is really that easy as you say...
regarding the economy thing, you are not the miniser of finance nor the minister of health to tell us that the economy could be the hindrance why it is hard to find a job. you are not the ministero f health to tell us that it will be hard for the overseas nures to penetrate australia because of the reason that youve laid out...SO YOU ARE HAVING MISCONCEPTIONS AND INCORRECT MISLEADING INAPPROPRATE INFORMATIONS!!!
and again generalization isnt good...and dont cleanse yourself as you yoursef needs some orientation of what australia is and whats happening, youve been here for montths only right? have a thorough research dear and you will know...and try to stand by corrected.
PS: interest rate in australa is sowly going higher indication that the economy is stable. in the next few months it wll rise again. do you think australia really dont need nurses? do you think it will be hard to find a job? if i may ask you how many hospitals are there in melbourne and in victoria as a whole? do you think that the on going construction and expansion of some of the hospitals dont require additional man power? how come it will be hard to find job? and do you agree that people who will have a hard time finding jobs are the ones discouraged by some discouraging and misleading people in here?
oh my God, i love this discussion...keep it coming as im in the mood...
Hi Kit25!!
Why do you sound so bitter? I'll pray for you... With the situation here in the Philippines, you can't blame Filipino nurses for trying to land a job abroad. Maybe you don't know the effort, sacrifices, and hard work we put in to be able to go to another country just to practice our profession. On the personal level, I will leave my 8 year old boy so I can take the bridging program because this is my opportunity to better our lives. The thought of me being miles away from my baby is just killing me inside.
The facts (if they indeed are true.) that you laid out are happening all over the WORLD, Job losses, companies closing, hard to find job vacancies. So what's new? and so what? What's your point? We know that already. Can't you just be supportive of your fellow Filipino nurses? People like you make me really sad...
