New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

hi! indeed when i went to their office here in Davao, ANSM-ASNC is closing their CAS applications on the 30th of november. I am high on my toes right now because of the pressure if i will enroll in their consultancy program. I really need advices guys. please if you can help me. Im a nov 08 NLE passer and i only had at most 2 months of hospital experience before i went on leave for my NCLEX review. I just decided to take the NCLEX in advance as i know it will come in handy soon. But as of now, considering america's tight retro issues, im looking at Australia as my option. And with the CAS program shutting down in 2 months time makes me feel nauseated...waaaaaaaaa..

please guys...

EVery bit of your response is really appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

you should really think it over in order to make a right decision.. as one of the members here mentioned that QNC replied to his/her query stating that CAS last batch or acceptance would ceased on January 2010 (something to that effect).. we just have to wait and see for the major changes that's going to happen come July 2010..

good luck..

Hi Izay! Have youi taken your IELTS already? I had once considered taking the OET and I've researched where I could get review mats but since it's not as common as IELTS (only a few people in fact know what OET is) I think the official review mats are only found in their website. But they have practice tests that you can download so why don't you try those first?

Here's the website for the OET

Godbless on your exam!

there is no review materials available in the market for OET...its only australia who initiates this exam...its better for you to just browse its website and practice the practice test...:)

good luck...

How long is the bridging course in Victoria and Queensland?

in Victoria, usually takes up to 13 weeks, 14 weeks at Deakin university...however, some of the course providers offer an early exit opportunity...

In Queensland, it depends on what pathway you are going to take...:) you can do the modules or take the exams...:)

Bridging course is also considered as an education or as a competency assessment? I will be on a student dependent visa and I plan to take the bridging course when I get there. However, my visa only allows me to study not longer than three months. From what you have told me, BP takes 13-14 weeks, so thats more than three months. Does anyone knew if I need to apply for another visa?

hello, if you have all the documents with you including the prc ones, then you can just send your applications to your chosen state board of nursing even if you are not in the philippines...however, you have to have it all certified by an approved certifier by the board of nursing of your chosen state...after doing this, you can send your applications without an ielts results. you just have to worry about as to where you could do the BP after the board signaled you to do so.

hi, as far as i know its a non-award course...:)

456 visa or tourist visa are/is the most suitable visas for this program...yes, unfortunately the BP's in victoria will take up to 13 weeks, 14 weeks for deakin uni...as what i have mentioned in my previous post, there is an opportunity for an early exit provided that you have met the standards set by the board of nursing or anmc...usually it will happen on the 11th or 12th week of training...if your visa wont let you stay in australia for more than three months then i suggest for you to change your visa, you have to be sure and safe about this, because you will be in a foreign land, and i reckon you dont want to be deported without finishing the BP...:D so to be safe, better to change your visa, to a visa that would permit you to stay a little bit longer than three months, in doing such way, you will still have time to find a sponsor/employer that will sponsor you...:)
