New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone, please help me.

I graduated last march 2007 here in the Philippines and I have my license here already.

Because of oversupply of nurses here, it's too difficult to find a job.

That's why I'm looking forward to working in Australia or New Zealand.

However, I'm confused. Esp about Australia.

I already have my bachelors degree here.

When I go there in Aus to work as RN, must I take a diploma in nursing first? can I work while studying?

After obtaining my diploma there, am I already a registered nurse?

Thank you!

I am going to Sydney to study too and so is my other friend and maybe a few more will come too lol. The only University on the western part of Sydney is University of Western Sydney which has several campuses. Other Universities in Sydney are University of Sydney, University of Technology, Sydney and Australian Catholic University. The 3 Universities are pretty much near each other and are located near Sydney CBD. All but ACU offer a graduate entry program. University of Sydney offers a Master of Nursing (pre-registration) program. The rest are your typical Bachelor of Nursing programs.

What do you mean by this? can i enroll in a Master of Nursing (pre-registration) without taking the units that i lack (i mean without enrolling to bridging program) or enrolling in a typical pre-registration program?

Do you know there requirements? and step by step process? im really interested on this...

thanks! :wink2:

Yes you can. I'll be taking up the Master's degree in USyd which is a pre-registration course.

Requirements are IELTS (no score less than 7.0 in all bands), Transcript of records, Diploma and filled out application form plus the 100 AUD application fee. The deadline for March 2009 entry is on October 31, 2008.

that's good! yes! at last! hehe.. aelith can you post the link re: University of Sydney. I think im going to pursue that..hehe..

BTW, do you how much their tuition fee costs? and can you guide me to thru the step by step process?

thanks again! you're really a big help :loveya::loveya:

The tuition fee as of 2008 is 22800 AUD per year.

hi bro. i cant reply to your private message that's why i decided to post in one of your threads.

it is true that ive decided to apply at VU (victoria university) for pre-registration course. there, once you undergo the 12 week course, you become registered as a nurse automatically. However, this would cost you P500k since the tuition fee is around 8k+ AUS Dollars plus other fees.

BUT you have another option and that is to undergo the 2 tests given by a certain Australian Student Consultancy here in the Philippines.

I have frozen all my plans in going to Australia, coz all the options are really expensive. Ive decided to gain experience here in the Philippines first before going to other countries. =)

Just a clarification.

The said 12 weeks course is a bridging course which when successfully completed can lead to registration in Victoria.

The 2 tests is the Challenge test pathway under the CAS program of Queensland Nursing Council. A representative of CAS will be coming to Manila to conduct a seminar about the said program.

They will also have a booth in the Nurse Expo tomorrow. Anyway...I'll be going to that seminar though I'm not too sure anymore of pursuing Australia since I don't have enough $$$$. :scrying:

:icon_rollHi Aelith,

Can you help me on this? I'm looking for a university/college in NSW that offers a bridging course for nurses. Preferably near Campsie. I already found one The College of Nursing, is it good there? What other universities or colleges that have a bridging course? and lastly, what are the usual requirements and fees?

Thanks a lot!!!:heartbeat
