New Grad in California -- Desperate help needed!!

Published

Hi everyone. I'm not sure if there's a thread that has already been made concerning this topic, but I really need some help on this!

I'm a new grad (since June 07) and I've been applying to several hospitals in the bay area and sacramento since then (even before graduation, actually) and have yet to receive a call back from any of those hospitals! I've heard the job market is really bad around this area, but I'm ready to make a move anywhere else, if need be, to get into a new grad training program! Would anyone be able to guide me in the right direction as to where to apply? I'm getting really discouraged.. I thought nurses were desperately needed in Cali?

If someone could tell me of a new grad program starting up anytime soon for which they're still accepting applicants (preferably within California), I'd really really really appreciate it!! I just want to start working already. I'm soo passionate about nursing and I've wanted to be a nurse ever since I was a little girl. Now that I have finally obtained my RN license, and have achieved my dreams of earning the title of an RN, I want to put it to action!! If someone could just give me an opportunity to even prove myself by calling me for an interview!! I'm so frustrated. PLEASE HELP!!!

You shouldn't have a problem finding work in the Los Angeles or Orange County area.

Thanks for responding! :)

Do you know how I could find out about the new grad programs in LA or OC area? I'm assuming most of these programs would be starting in Jan 08. Any chance I could still squeeze my way through into one of those programs?

call the individual hospitals and ask them. many of the larger facilities have websites where you can inquire online. go online to either

these sites will specifically list california hospitals that have nursing jobs in the la area.

this is a link to get a list of all the licensed hospitals/facilities in california. you can identify hospitals in an area by city name, zip code, or telephone area code.

There's a new grad program starting in January at Mercy San Juan in Carmichael (Sacramento area). Good luck and best wishes!

Have you applied at Stanford? I know that they are still accepting applications for the new grad program. This is the direct link:

As someone said eralier, you may have a better shot at finding a job in SoCal. The pay is less, but at this point you really dont have much of a choice. Good luck

Oh, I wonder if you can call the recruiters and nurse managers to check on your application. Maybe you could also get one of your previous instructors to help you. When I was looking to change jobs as a student nurse/tech, one of my instructors helped me secure an interview.

For some reason the link I posted does not work, but check the standford website. The program starts in March and the deadline is Jan 15.

I noticed a posting for a New Grad RN opening at UC Davis Med. Center in Sacramento (starting at $33/hr), in the burn unit... Good Luck

Hi all. Thank you all so much for all your responses. I'm currently in the process of looking into most of these hospitals, applying, and contacting the nurse recruiters and what not.

Any further suggestions/responses would be greatly appreciated. I want to apply to as many programs as possible in hopes of lining up a few interviews. I have no prior experience (other than nursing school) in the field, so I really hope that doesn't work completely to my disadvantage. I'm so worried.

But again, thank you so much!! This is a great start for me! :]

Hi TouchOfPink, I was wondering how the job search is coming along? I graduate in June (08) and I'll be moving back to CA (Sac/Lodi), so I've been occassional looking at job openings in the area... I've read many posts about others in N. Ca. also having a hard time finding new grad openings and it's making me nervous... :o

Since CA implemeted the ratios, this has attracted many nurses to CA, and it's now getting hard to find a job.
