New Grad BSN RN, Any jobs out there??

U.S.A. Nevada

Published

I recently graduated with a BSN, passed my NCLEX, and got licensed. I guess you can say that I am pretty discouraged by the looks of the job market. I've had NO LUCK AT ALL! Anybody have any tips or advice??? Know of any jobs in Las Vegas/Henderson area???

Centennial Hills hospitals takes new grads at times.

Hello 808hi I would suggest joiNing the new grad rn california fb page for support. Especially since new grads face much ignorance and useless advice as evidenced above. There are some good resources for interviews, cover letters etc., and it is nice to hear success stories now and again. I am applying to nv hospitals and have had one interview there thus far. I would suggest being ready to take behavioral exams by researching strategies. Also I think other healthcare experience like certifications or cna job for example may help. I visited many hospitals hr depts. For info. Best of luck to you and all of us new grads out there. There are many of us struggling nationwide.

Thank you so much for your advice! I will definitely look up that fb page, as I enjoy reading success stories & coming across resources that aid new grads. I really regret not working as a CNA during my time in school. I may look into it for the time being.

I'm glad you got an interview. Good luck with your career! I can't wait to hear that you got the job.

I suggest contacting your preceptors, employed classmates and former instructors that you think may be able to help you at least get a brief introduction to hiring managers.

I will definitely do that. Thank you so much for all your tips & advice. I appreciate it.

McLennan,

While you can give your 2 cents about certain questions, please be mindful of the way you say things (funny how "Therapeutic communication" isn't really use among peers") b/c it is a frustrating time for New grads during this particular period as opposed when you started out as a RN. The use of "Starbucks" was probably a bad example to use and rubbed 808_hi the wrong way. Please be more mindful of what you say because we do want solid advice during these difficult times.

Applying at Starbucks WAS solid advice, as was suggesting she search the board for similar threads. Not all answers are going to be wrapped up in sparkly bows! She asked a question and I answered it with useful information. You don't like my posts? Put me on your ignore list.

You could have said "work a part timer, volunteer on the side" while looking for available positions. You think New grads want to be back at SB!?! New grads gave them enough business, while studying during school and for boards. I do like your posts...its hilarious seeing you give "tough love" responses. Only thing 808_hi did wrong was word her tread question wrong...should have said pertained it to nursing jobs since you are so literal to the tee about this, lol.

While not all answers are in "sparkly bows" I think we can be supportive of each other.......as per the Terms of Service our call is to be supportive.

No, your advice is not solid. The OP was looking for current advice regarding the job market in NV, which is why they posted in the NV boards. Directing them to the "millions of posts about new grads looking for jobs" does not help them with job hunting in NV. If they posted this on the first job hunt thread, it would probably be moved here since they are asking about NV. And how will applying at Starbucks help them as a new nurse? Last time I checked, being a nurse isn't a prerequisite for preparing overpriced drinks. There is nothing wrong with posting a new thread on an old topic!

Let's get back to the topic at hand: new grad jobs in NV.

While AN promotes lively debate, we ask that you debate the topic not the piaster. Thanks everyone
