NEW DON ?

Published

I work in a LTC facility in which the prior DON resigned under threat of being fired...They have hired a new DON who cant come to work until she goes to court for the charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor (she had a booze party and invited underage drinkers) I would really like everyones thoughts on this :(

LOL Sounds like a real winner they hired!!! LOL IF found guilty I would love to know if that is something that would effect her license.

Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel! I guess they aren't getting many "qualified" applicants!!

Wow!!! Well, this is why I tell people to make friends in the right places. You do not have to be the best candidate of good character or of sound mind if you know the right people! :lol2:

I am kidding... this sounds awful for you and your co-workers. Hopefully this person will not bring in "friends" to add to the staff in order to form a supportive clique because that will make this situation worse. GL!

The law still states, "Innocent until proven guilty.". Why don't you concentrate on having her work, then determine, whether or not she is capable.

As to the other issue, I bet you don't have all sides to the story. Why is it considered okay to allow smokers keep on,afterall it is their personal time and does not affect patient care?Being the case, then this( whatever this is) most likely happened during her personal time off and should have no bearing on her capabilities.Right?

Wrong! Some of us are judgmental in nature and as such attribute all the bad qualities we can to something we don't like. That being said. Let the courts decide and you concentrate on your work:)

How is smoking equal to breaking the law by providing alcohol to minors? Being a DON requires as much common sense and good judgement as it does being a good nurse. It doesn't seem to me that someone who would throw a party and give alcohol to minors has much common sense or good judgement....just my opinion:eek:

how do you know that information is true?

I had a DON year agos. This was many many many years ago. I remember telling her that I was very upset and concerned about the missing IM Talwin. I knew some nurse or nurses must have been stealing it. She told me not to worry about it. She told me that she had reported it and that the situation was going to be taken care of. About a month later, I came to work and was told that the DON had been fired. When I asked why she was fired I was told "She got caught stealing the IM Talwin."

And you know this because you were there?Tell me you were there, saw this happen and know this to be true and I will apologise and eat my words!

Matters in one's personal life do not necessarily affect one's ability to do a job. For all we know, this situation is nothing more than a bunch of made up accusations. I would instead worry about how she is going to approach the job. That is enough for me to worry about, legal charges or not.

Actually I read the same post that you did. I was not there and assume that you were also not there and would have no more verified information that I did. We both chose to comment on it. No apology needed. I was just stating my opinion.

You could have fooled me! From your posting and outright condemnation, I could have sworn you were right there.

Classic case of crying more than the bereaved!
