My heart is with those nurses at Inland Valley. The union has a lot more money to campaign with and a lot more experience, it won't be easy, but it would be worth it to get the union out of their hospital. All the talk about a union shop, why should people be forced to be affiliated with an organizatioin they don't agree with? This is still America right?

Nurses are not happy with CNA representation and they are making their feeling known! The CNA is NOT the voice of the Nurses of California.

The more correct statement would be 30 percent of the nurses are unhappy with CNA representation. That doesn't mean that all RN's are unhappy with CNA. If they were, the opponents would have more than 50 percent of the signatures and the union would be out already.

So far ... all of these decertification elections have failed and the majority of RN's have been voting to keep CNA representation.

Why don't we continue this discussion when you actually win a decertification election.

We persevere in our efforts to let the public know that the California Nurses Association does not speak for the majority of Nurses in the state of California. Furthermore in those facilities that they do claim to represent it is often by only a thin margin that they keep their stranglehold. By continuing to "chip away at the stone" Professional Nursing will prevail.

Huh?

CNA won the decertification election at St. Vincent with 75 percent of the vote. That's not a thin margin. Scripps Encinitas was closer with 56 percent of the vote, but that's still the majority.

These were elections that the union opponents initiated. Are you now saying these votes don't count, even though they were cast in your decertification elections?

As a member of a CNA Professional Practice Committee (PPC) at my hospital we have improved patient care. I think PPC members are part of professional nursing.

Throughout the south and mid-west you will find nurses begging for unions. They have low pay, no job protection, unsafe patient ratio's. Too many union RN's want to have their cake and eat it too! They want the benefit of unions but don't want to pay dues. CNA is why california nurses have it so good. It's too late to turn your back on CNA now!

Sherwood RN,

Do you ever give it up? Have you returned/refused the pay raises, and improved benefits that CNA has won for you? Do you take 10 -15 patients every shift, like in the old days, before the patient ratio act was passed? Or on any of your shifts? And all we ever hear about is how ungrateful you are for all that they have done. If the answer to these questions is no, then you have no right to challenge the CNA. Period. CNA is here to stay. I would welcome CNAand/or, the NNOC here in Spokane, WA to replace the worthless State Nurses Association that we now have. Maybe then the nurses would actually get a raise that wasn't eaten up by a 20% increase in the cost of medical benefits, earn Seattle area wages and benefits (25% higher), that the LPNs, RTs, X- Ray techs, secretaries, etc, received when 1199 organized them. JMHO.

cna does not represent the nurses at sherwood's hospital. cna lost the election there!!! does cna tell people about the elections they lose or about when they withdraw petitions for elections when they can't be sure they will win....no> they say they represent 60,000 rns in california, well that's about 240,000 they don't represent in california!!! they ones who choose not to belong should not be forced to wear their lable. there are plenty of us.

You know, this Fulkerson person who is quoted in this article is the organizer (not a Nurse) who took pictures of my friend and refused her to attend a CNA CEU class and called her a "union buster" in front of her peers because she verbally opposed CNA in her facility as a union. She filed a complaint with the BRN because she felt it was wrong to be denied entry to a class that provided BRN CEUs based on her union beliefs. The board upheld that her position was RIGHT and that they are not able to deny entry to classes due to union beliefs. That decision, however did not appologise for their behavior.

They were bullying and intimidating. This just further solidified her opinion that these are not people she wants to represent her! They are not porfessional. They never even offered an appology for the way she was treated. I personally find this disgusting!!!!!!!!!

As I recall, Sherwood works at Whittier Hospital, where CNA did win the election. But the anti-union Bush dominated National Labor Relations Board ruled that CNA couldn't represent RN's there because the facility was bought by a new owner. Same with Cedars Sinai, where CNA won the actual vote, but the NLRB threw out the election.

Just out of curiosity ... what recent elections has CNA actually lost, where they did not get the majority vote from RN's? Because the NLRB throwing out elections on technicalities is not the same thing as CNA losing the actual RN vote.
