I am taking my prerequisite to obtain my BSN. I am pretty much done with all of them except for my sciences and stats. This fall semester will be A & P 1 and chem both with lab. I am a wife and mother if 3. Two of my kiddos go to school. My study time is basically when my 2 yo goes down for his nap, which is 3 hours, and when my kids go to bed at night, about 1 1/2 hours. I could take advantage of his nap time about 5 to 6 days a week and the 1 1/2 hours at night about 3 to 4 times a week. Is that enough study time for both A&P 1 and chem, both with labs? I am just nervous about the science classes.

How about when you are at school? Any breaks between classes? I have about a four hour break this semester coming between one of my nursing classes and lab and I plan to spread everything out on a table in the library. Might get most of my studying done that one afternoon!
Great point lorirn. I am a stay at home mom so I go to school either early in the morning or evening classes, both so my hubby can be home with the kids. I don't take many classes on the same days. I have Tuesdays and Thursday morning for A & P 1 and Monday and Wednesday evening for chem. I am not going to nursing school until my youngest goes to kinder. Everyone, including me, will be in school at the same time.

My advisor told me once that for every credit of a class, expect to spend 3-4 hours outside of class studying per week. So a 3 credit class would be 9-12 hours.
For me, since the nursing science pre-reqs were so important, I would say my number was closer to 4-5 hours a week per credit, and when I was in physiology it was closer to 6 hours.
It is all going to depend on the type of student you are. You can do this, you just need to be smart with your time and study every spare second you have!

I have older kids in school and 2 little ones at home. I take my classes at night and online. I do any schoolwork during the day while my little ones are playing and napping. I always have my laptop and books near by and while the kids play with each other, I do whatever work I can. Any work that requires a bit more focus I do after coming home from class at night. It is hard work balancing it all but for me, sticking to a schedule is key.

My gpa is 3.86. I always give my all and best for every class. That is why I'm concerned. My time is very planned when school is in session. Just trying to figure things out before I start in a few weeks. If I had to I could wake up earlier then I usually do and it would give me an extra hour a day. That would mean waking up at 4:30 am instead of 5:30 am. Ugh! I will do what I have to to get an A. I will be tired but I will get over it. Lol!

We sound like the same person! I am a 4.0 and I too will do anything :).
I will be honest with you, it does not get any easier... actually harder in nursing school. There is a reason they recommend not working while in nursing school. I bet between my clinicals and studying I put in 40 hours a week outside of class. Bust your butt for these few years, and it will pay off in the end.

Thank you ebailey. I am sure I will be really freaking out when i'm about to start nursing school. Right now I'm just mildly freaking out. Lol!
The ability for us to adapt is remarkable. As you go along in this process, you will see somehow it all seems to work out in the end. :) Maybe it is a mom thing :)

You hubby is wise! Sounds like you have a good partner to make this journey with.
