Hi all!!! Is anyone out there applying for the Nurse Education Loan Repayment for 2011..I came across the thread for 2010 but was just looking for some additional support...ahhhh!!!!!!!! Its so stressful!
Thanks!
Hi everyone! I have been following this thread for awhile now. I am interested in applying for the 2012 NELRP. I work at a DSH with 186% for my income/loan debt ratio. I pulled my credit report recently and I have some unpaid debt from several years ago. No taxes or child support, but some medical bills, etc., from when I didn't have health insurance, which I am working on paying off now. Will this disqualify me? I called NELRP and the lady I spoke with did not give me a very clear answer, but implied that I might not qualify. Does anyone have any personal experience with this? I hate to get my hopes up if I won't qualify.
Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone who has already applied!
ALeoRN - I will let you know because I applied this year with the exact same scenario! My credit score is excellent, but I too have a mark on my credit from awhile ago when I was in nursing school and had no health insurance and didn't realize I had a medical bill. I did get the verification email, a credit check, and my dates changed on my original application...so I will keep you posted if I get awarded or not!!
Amybarbern - Thanks for responding! On the NELRP website on the eligibility requirements page it does say that the applicant cannot have any federal debt. However it also says that the applicant will be deemed ineligible if they have "defaulted on any federal payment obligations or non-federal payment obligations." I don't know if past unpaid medical bills are considered defaulted payments... even if I eventually pay them off. I don't recall reading these requirements last time I looked at the NELRP website a few months ago, so maybe these are new. Anyway, I will be anxiously waiting to see if you get funded!
Also, does anyone know about private loans that have a cosigner? I feel they should qualify, but the NELRP person I spoke with one the phone said they may not.
Tgarris- The address that will you allow to login is: https://nis.hrsa.gov/
Go to the loan section on the application and look at the dates entered column. Those are the ones that change.

ok so some bigish news. i received an email from my attn person (the one i had to fax my contract to). the date says it (the email i received) was sent 7/27/11, so i sure hope it doesn't matter i just now saw it! how dumb of me!
anyway it said:
thank you for submitting a very neat application package. i’ve reviewed and sent your application forward.
i wrote back this morning and said:
thank you so much for the update. i guess the next step is just hoping the secretary of health and human services signs my contract! please let me know if any additional information is required.
this has gotta be a kick butt sign right? i didn't ask any questions because i thought it was already very nice i was updated at all. anyone else hear anything?! any thoughts?!
