Wow guys, I received another deposit too! My husband checked the banking account this morning and was baffled because he was supposed to get paid tomorrow and thought he got paid today instead. Very strange. I do remember that on our contract that was mailed to us, it said that I would receive an "initial" payment of $--- and then subsequent payments of "$---" but didn't realize they meant that the initial payment would be like a random extra payment. Also does this mean our deposits are going to come monthly on this date or on the 22nd. Hmmm??? Any ideas??

I had gotten my deposit yesterday as well! I noticed too that when I paid my Sallie Mae loan, it wasn't as easy and cut and dry as I thought it would be. I had to put some of the monies toward different percentages of one loan and so on...so since I had consolidated some of my loans, there were different percentages on different amounts. Anyways, what I ended up doing was putting the most money toward the higher percentage. I am hoping that in the end, that will take some of the load off of the whole amount. At least I hope that's what will happen! Anyways, yes, I am very happy we all got this award and that we were all there for each other through this long and drawn out process! Congrats again everyone and here's to a much more happier two to three years! I am taking this month to enjoy myself. I will start crackin down on my other bills starting in October. My husband and I both figured we would take one month to relax and chill. But luckily we're doing it this month because it seems this one month was harder bill-wise for us anyways so we're glad we are doing it this month. Hopefully we'll start noticing the relief and change in our bank account after this one month! Thanks for your support everyone!

No I understand completely how you're saying to do it. I just was a little confused because NELRP is only giving us monthly payments, not biweekly...? I dunno, it's all good though. I am officially waiting anxiously for money in the bank! Come on big money, big money.....no whammies, stop! he he he....but seriously I sure hope the 22nd doesn't come and go without a deposit cause I think I'll start freakin out a little again

Hey JMedina, my bright self just thought of something though about the biweekly payments...the NELRP program is only giving us monthly payments...12 to be exact. So for those few extra weeks, we will have to come out of pocket right? or split it up differently? Just thinkin...

Roobie - please type in nelrp 2011 on your search on this website. This blog is for awardees to the nelrp 2011 program. you can google it and find out all the information you need. the nurses on this blog have won a federally funded award program to those who have significant financial aid debt. thanks! JMedina - I owe 16 grand, almost 17 on my lowest loan, which the payment monthly is 104 bucks montly; my highest SallieMae loan is approximately 70 grand. And my montly payment is right under 500. I thought almost everyone who was awarded had just as much debt as me...if not more! You are lucky! Seems to me you and your wife don't have as much debt as me, so I can understand why you would apply your award to your loans as you do. But I think I may try goingcrazyhere's website and see what works best for me! What was your percentage/annual ratio? And is this yours or your wife's loans you're speaking of? My goal, besides not paying anything toward my loans for the next two to three years, IS definitely utilizing this award toward my loans in THE MOST BENEFICIAL WAY POSSIBLE!! And that includes interest. But to be honest, I'm gonna have to look into my interest rates and all those nitty gritty facts again cause I don't remember what they are and if they are fixed/variable, etc....But I'll totally post what we'll do when we find out!! I am really thankful you posted about the biweekly payments though cause that's a really neat fact I wasn't aware of!! Have you been paying your loans biweekly!? I've been missin out on free payments it seems. Thanks!

It's cool Jmedina, my husband is usually wrong about things...lol, just kidding, but seriously the reason why he was saying to attempt to knock out the big one (I have two loans) is because the smaller loan's monthly payment is only 104 bucks monthly; I can pay that for the rest of my life if I have to, that is no big deal! The other one is huge though, it's like right under 500 bucks every single month and it's variable so what do you think??? I am all about the suggestions, girl! I want to utilize this award the best I can WITHOUT having to come out of pocket @ all. I think I am going to take you up on the two-payments system, because you are right, if it knocks out one whole payment yearly with this deal I am all about it. That's like 1200 dollars for me total! Thanks!! Keep postin...

Hey Suzy, you should push back your loan payments! That's what I did. So now my payment isn't due until the 28th and I don't have to pay it @ all this month because I will wait until I get my deposit.

I am waiting anxiously for the payment too! I am also confused, JMedina as to how that whole biweekly thing works out? So you are just saying JUST by taking the money we were awarded and splitting them into two payments montly we will decrease our total payments? I don't understand how that's possible too. And yes, the taxes getting taken out is unbelieveable, and I will be upset if my husband and I have to owe a lot of money @ the end of these next two years because WE DON'T HAVE MONEY TO GIVE THE GOVERNMENT. for goodness sake, they are already taking out like 18 grand from my 2 year award contract! sigh....So keep updates when people get deposits. I figured it would happen around the 22nd of the month or earlier...hopefully earlier. My husband mentioned just paying the minimum towards the lowest loan amount and then the rest toward the higher amount, but I think we may disburse it evenly between the two. I am pretty adament about NOT paying anything myself towards my loans for these next few years and paying off my credit card debt and husband's car and maybe my kid's tuition so that when I do have to start repayment, things will be a lot less burdensome. But I haven't really decided yet. I will have to think more closely about things now though...glad I have this new blog.

Nurse79 - unfortunately I think that is what NELRP Help is saying...that if you did NOT receive an email, you have not been awarded. Because the way they obtain your banking info and contract (which we received a copy of in the actual award letter), is via email. When I applied last year, I did not receive an email and I did not get funded. Did you check your spam folder too, though?? There's always next year too....

Vicky, that is the email I was talking about. If you got it than good!! Have you tried PMing or speaking directly to NELRP Help?? Because he has helped others out with finding out the news, whether it be good or bad. Good luck, hope your mailman brings good news soon!!

vicky193, have you gotten the verification email? Because if not, I think that's bad news. But I dunno. Good luck to everybody who is still waiting to hear something!! I know how hard it is to get let down every single time that mailman comes! This past week was so great for me and my family! My hubby and I have been celebrating with champagne and just happy happy happy. This means the world to us! I feel like I won the little mini-nurses lottery for those who struggled paying for their education!! I truly wish everyone could get this award. It's amazing how a little extra money can help you feel so much better! Again, good luck to everybody!

NELRP 2011
I got my letter today!! Yipppeee!!! So excited!! Thanks again NELRP Help!! You are a truly wonderful person, and you gave my family and I hope again!! Boy, they weren't lying last year about the taxes! but I will take it! I absolutely plan on taking the payments I was making towards my loans and posting them to my other debts for the next 2-3 years! So then when I do start having to repay my loans, it will be a lot easier for me! So NELRP Help, for the amendment year, you have to apply like 6 months prior to your contract ending, is that right?? Because I am definitely going to do that! For those of you who are still waiting, good luck!! I wish we all could get this award! This means the world to me and my 4-year old and 11-month old! We can EAT! Ha ha ha And btw NELRP Help, I may not be able to say much about myself, but I can tell you that I know I am a good nurse. And I've always felt that I didn't deserve the student loan debt that I have just because I didn't have wealthy parents or the means to provide for my education. So thank you! Your job is very important to so many good people...And I hope that Hurricane Irene doesn't travel near you guys! I live in New Orleans, LA so I know first-hand what the devastation of hurricanes can do to people. I finished my nursing school career in a movie theatre by the way because of Katrina!! Loving life right now though!! Amy 150%, Louisiana
