NELRP 2010

Hello Everyone,

I am going to apply for NELRP for 2010. I am getting married in June '10. I am wondering if when I apply, will they look at my debt to income ratio or that of me and my husbands combined income once we are married, since we are getting married in the middle of the application process. If anyone knows I would love to know. My debt to income ratio by my self is 268%, but much less with my fiances income added. Right now I live with my parents and am struggling to pay my loans.

Thanks,

Sarah

I applied for NELRP 2009 with a debt to income ratio of 200%

I qualified and didnt get it, they told me it was like a lottery and my application wasnt pulled out of the hat.

Hhm? That sucks, they made it seem like they keep going until all the money runs out, starting from those in the first funding preference category. Were you in the first funding preference and are you gonna apply again?

Nubian Queen,

No I just went to a very pricey private university and work in the south were pay is low.

And you cant count loans where you had a cosigner? Where is that listed? The loans where I had a cosigner have since been consolidated on my own, so I guess I'm okay.

Oh I see and I wasn't trying to be rude so please forgive me if I offended you. I was told that by the hrsa call center. I asked them if I was to receive the award and wanted to amend for a third year could I if I consolidate but needed or had a cosigner and they told me know. So of course I followed up with them the following and asked a different question. I asked them are loans that I had where a cosigner was needed still eligible and the guy told me: "hold on that's and iffy question" and came back on the phone after putting me on hold to tell me know so I guess that sucks for me. I still have a descent ratio and I am depending on the Lords favor for this one. I don't know any past recipients told different? Please inform me and everyone else what you all know question.png

You didnt offend me at all. Didn't even cross my mind.

I just did a quick, and probably not thorough search, of HRSA's FAQ and didn't see anything about a co-signer disqualifying you. I also don't remember reading anything regarding that in the packet they have you read.

Can anyone shed some more light on this?

I should apply again, but it was sooo much work and such a let down when I didnt get it. I actually called after I got the letter saying I didnt get it. A completely different picture was painted for me then, as opposed to when I was applying because during that time I really had no doubt I would get it.

But good luck to you.

nnestle, what kind of picture was painted for you? some say it's lottery for those who qualify, others are told they start at the top and work their way down, others are told they try to fund as many as possible so those with very high percentages dont get it, but people further down the list will.

this all is so confusing.

yes i don't know and sometimes the people at the call center may not know what the heck they are talking about. i just have to keep on praying for the best. but i just wanted to know what funding preference you were? not you kiky but the one was said she didn't get it due to it being a lottery?

Hey guys,

I'm about to apply for this program cuz I have about 80K in loans. Do you pick what places you wanna work for or do they tell you what facility you will be matched with? How do they choose who you work for? THANKS!! This thread is really helping me a lot!

This program doesn't find or assign you a job.

There is a list of what is considered a Critical Shortage Facility on their website. You need to already be employed at a CSF. The definition is pretty broad. Visit this link and look under Service Locations: http://www.hrsa.gov/loanscholarships/repayment/nursing/eligibility.html

All of that is on the NELRP website which you should take a look at. I really hope you have already started the application, because a lot of the documentation can take several weeks to be sent to you and since we have until march 2nd to send it through that wouldn't give you enough time to ship it all out.
