NELRP 2010

Published

Hello Everyone,

I am going to apply for NELRP for 2010. I am getting married in June '10. I am wondering if when I apply, will they look at my debt to income ratio or that of me and my husbands combined income once we are married, since we are getting married in the middle of the application process. If anyone knows I would love to know. My debt to income ratio by my self is 268%, but much less with my fiances income added. Right now I live with my parents and am struggling to pay my loans.

Thanks,

Sarah

Just for clarification, March 4th is the deadline.

I called the call center and they told me that any loans with a co-signer are not eligible. They also said it is mentioned in that info packet we were to read. But it read it three times over and don't see it??? I only see where if you consolidated debt with another person then those loans are eligible. To me, that and having a cosigner are two different things.

Thanks, I know I was two days off now but I am shipping it off today! But I know some where in that information packet it does say if anyone else is on your loan it is ineligible. So with that being said a cosigner is a coborrower, who agrees that if you don't pay they will take on your debt so that is why it doesn't count. I have just decided to roll with the punches on this one. I know I sound hopeful and I should be right? I am optimistic in everything I do so I won't be a pessimist in this area.

Nubian Queen - I have read the Application Guidelines several times and no where in the packet does it say that if you have co-signers on your loan makes it ineligible. Parent PLUS loans, which are loans made to parents for their children in school, are not eligible. Most large student loans have co-signers? I have called the call center and every time I speak to a different person and get a different answer. Where did you find this information about co-signed loans being ineligible?

Reno -Nubian Queen is saying that co-signed loans are ineligible. Are most large student loans not co-signed? I thought they were. I don't see anywhere in the app packet anything about co-signed loans not qualifying. Parent PLUS loans don't qualify but the are entirely different. I was just wondering if you knew?

Call the hrsa call center and they will tell you that it does not qualify. I also got to speak with a cheif financial officer who does the loan stuff when they come in and they specifically told me this. If you would like give it a try but the loans will not count. Trust me if they did I would surely have put that on as well for my qualifying loan debt. The reason why cosigned loans don't count is because the coborrower/cosigner is stating that if you don't pay, they will. This is what I was told not what I am just popping off with off of the top of my head. If you hear of anything otherwise feel free to let me in what you find out on that. Good luck sedietsch :)

Why is it not on the application packet anywhere?

Why is it not on the application packet anywhere?

To be honest, I have no idea and I was also a little upset (understatement) LOL! That is what they told me and also my friend who didn't believe me but she did when she also spoke with a cheif financial officer who told her the same thing. Maybe next year if any of us have to reapply they will decide to post it. Call them tomorrow though for your own sanity and let me know if you here of anything new, which I surely don't believe you will. Good luck again sedietsch!

Does anyone know if you need an actual disbursement report for private signature loans? I requested this info from Sallie Mae, and they sent me actual disbursement reports for all of my federal loans, but they only sent me the application/promissory note for signature loans. What they sent does not contain all of the information that is within the disbursement reports, but it IS a promissory note. So, do they really mean "disbursement report OR promissory note" for non-federal private loans, or do they want a document that has specific disbursement information on it??? If that's the case, can I submit what Sallie Mae sent me along with a printed version of my loan summary page from Sallie Mae.com that contains that info?? Any HELP???

Katezenta - For my private loan I got the promissory note (which didn't have disbursement dates) and I requested that they send me another document that did have the disbursment dates, because I think they want them to ensure the loan was disbursed during your education. I'm sure Sallie Mae has something they could send you that has disbursment dates on it.

Hope that helps.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I talked to two girls that I went to nursing school with last night, who both got THIS award last year, and they both had co-signers on ALL of their loans. Most large loans have co-signers, because 1) they are large sums of money and 2) many students don't have much credit history when applying for school. I didn't want anyone to think that co-signed loans are not eligible. Clearly the people who answer the phones at the HRSA call center do not know what they are talking about (and the CFO is wrong). If co-signed loans were not accepted, it would be indicated in the "Loans Not Qualifying for Repayment" section.

Hope this helps!

Thank you so very much! I am excited about this one :yeah: Got a little nervous though because I already turned in my paper application and thought I did the same for the online portion; however, I didn't so I will be sending the paper documents out tomorrow and officially sending it online. I can't believe those people at the call center. They need to be trained better but the guy told me he was the chief financial officer? Oh well, life goes on and thanks a million!

So I am just finally getting all of my application wrapped up (I only found out about this program some weeks ago, goodness knows it took till just this moment to get everything together, for all 8,000 of my loans), and am trying to access the online application. As I have never accessed NELRP before I am trying to set-up a new account but everytime I hit next it spits me back an error page:

Server Error in '/Public/NELRP_Public' Application.New request is not allowed to start because it should come with valid transaction descriptor...etc.etc...

I have tried multiple browsers/OSes with no difference in outcome. I am trying to get ahold of their Call Center but have had no success for the past hour (busy dialtone). Emailed their center though who knows when I'll get a reply back. Is anyone in the same boat or have dealt with this problem in the past? I'm going crazy right now as this has to go in today!:eek: Any suggestions???

Before I start crying? :crying2:
