I am just curious as to what the max. dollar amount is that the NELRP will repay. I understand the 60% for 2 yr. committment and another 25% for third yr. but what is the max. dollar amount? I have looked at the website and I have found nothing about it except the percentage. Other places I have looked have stated up to $15,000 and up to $30,000. Are these two different programs? I also do not understand they have a TON of applicants but I am really curious about the program (private tuition is doing a number on me). Any info. would be greatly appreciated!!!
sla212-I went to Columbia too-I graduated from ETP in 2006, when did you go? My loans are also only for my BSN, and the idea of graduating from Columbia with a debt in the 200,000 range freaked me out too much to continue on there for my masters. I'm hating private schools right about now though.
molly,
I also graduated in 2006. I had to stay in nyc to work at presbyterian because I would not have been able to afford the loans any other way. I just love seeing the happy columbia students come strolling onto my unit. They always ask me why I did not finish and when I tell them that my student loans were already well over 1000 a month for just the BSN all their mouths drop open in shock. I told them "the loans don't seem that bad when you are in school, but when that first payment comes, then your reality sets in and you realize that 2000 a month is not worth it for an NP when you will make just as much if not more as an RN in the hospital." I am so hoping I get this so I can move back towards my friends and family sometime in the near future. They are building a brand new hospital right near my home back in mass which is scheduled to open in 2012 which I am praying I will be able to work at. We shall see.

huntfishwv,
I am sorry to inform you that the percentages on here are just for nursing. I have another degree and when I applied, I needed to calculate my ratio with just my nursing loans and my percentage was 185%. Yes it is just from nursing school (BSN). (I owe another 20,000 from my first BS) I went to a private school in NYC and I also work in NYC making very good money so my debt ratio is almost half of what it would be if I had moved back to Mass and worked there. One of my friends went to a private 4 year school in Mass for her BSN and had to finance about 40000 a year so it is definately possible. If I would have stayed at Columbia for my masters which I have originally planned then I would have about 200,000 in debt just from school. I am praying I can get this award so I can get a manageable amount of debt again.
