I am just curious as to what the max. dollar amount is that the NELRP will repay. I understand the 60% for 2 yr. committment and another 25% for third yr. but what is the max. dollar amount? I have looked at the website and I have found nothing about it except the percentage. Other places I have looked have stated up to $15,000 and up to $30,000. Are these two different programs? I also do not understand they have a TON of applicants but I am really curious about the program (private tuition is doing a number on me). Any info. would be greatly appreciated!!!

I was accepted for the NELRP last year, as I have a ton of student loan debt.
Where is it that you heard about a "max amount"? For the NELRP, there is no max amount. Unless they have changed it from last year, but I just quickly glanced at their website and I see no mention of a max amount.

The more debt you have, the better chances you have of getting accepted for it, as that's what they first look at.
I saw the max. loan amount when I used google and checked with a couple of the sites that came up. From what I have found now is there are two different programs. One being while you are in school (and I think this pays 15,000 plus a monthly stipend) and one that you can apply after schooling (this is the $30,000). I may be wrong about the info. that I read (it would be GREAT if there was no max. amount) and that's why I am looking for any info. My student loan debt is outrageous due to my private school and having to take two personal loans because my husband was laid off. $30,000 would definitely put a dent in my debt but if there is no max.-that would be even better.
That one that you're looking into with the $15,000/$30,000 must be something different than the NELRP.
Please check out that link in my above post. I applied for it twice and was finally accepted last year, as I have a ton of student loan debt due to the private school I graduated from. I'm getting 65% of my loans paid off for a 2 year contract, and it adds up to quite a bit more than $30,000.
If you have any more questions regarding the NELRP process and/or application, feel free to ask.
Raindreamer,
Thank you for all the information that you have provided. Although it is a step in the dark (I am very used to taking these), it has provided me some reassurance knowing that this program is out there and the benefits of it. Of course I do know they only offer a few scholarships compared to the number of applications. I did check your link and I understand it a little better now. Can I ask one question: should one consolidate loans for this or can you have different lenders (I have two)? Thank you again:bow:

I consolidated my private loans after I got accepted for the NELRP, but I already had my government loans consolidated. I don't think it matters if you consolidate before, after, or not at all.
If you do consolidate before applying, just make sure you keep ALL your paperwork, promissory notes, etc because you will have to make copies to send in along with the application.

Hi guys. Has anyone applied for the NELRP for 2008, and if so, have you heard anything back yet? I know the notification deadline isn't until Sept 30th, but I was curious as to when they start rolling out the letters. I know it's a long shot, but my debt is killing me!
I will not graduate for another 2 years but I am just exploring the options right now. Sorry I can't give you any info about it.

I also applied for the 2008 application and I am going nuts waiting for a response. Sorry to say, I haven't had it yet. My loans are 110% of my annual income so I thought I would have been one of the first notified. I know they discourage calls so I haven't called to get any info. I doubt they would have any to give. Since you posted your message, have you heard of anyone getting a response?
When I got my acceptance letter last year it was in Sept. They said they would send letters out Oct. 31st, but I got my acceptance letter towards the end of Sept. I wasn't expecting it that early.

Mine are around that too. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Where I go to grad school is going to depend on whether I get it, so I'm hopin' hopin' hopin'...

I as well applied to the NELRP for 2008. I called today and they said that they started sending out letters in july but that ppl would be notified in Sept so that did not make sense. My loans are about 140% of my income so I am crossing my fingers. Good luck to everyone who applied!
