52.5 years old. Age really isn't a concern. Money was a concern. I have a 17 year old son, a less that helpful, downright passive aggressive husband and worked full time doing EC LPN to RN. Graduated in June, passed NCLEX in July. Job market is non-existent at hospitals here in lovely Massachusetts, so I am right back in sub-acute care facility, making the same money as when I was an LPN. But I have found that RN's here are given more respect than LPN's which is so unfair. Of course you can do this, age does not matter, organization, dedication, and ability to study the material on your own is what matters.

P.S. Just applied for Excelsior MSN program. Already have a Bachelor's in another field.
I am trudging through the EC program (also not a spring chicken), and was recently told that one of my employers won't consider me for an RN position until I get RN experience somewhere else. I suspect that I will be moving on to any employer who hires me as an RN. There is nothing wrong with doing this type of thing if you are on in years. I've seen where students were in their 50's and 60's in nursing school. Whatever you want to do, you can. It is up to you not to let others discourage you. Good luck.
Another 'no spring chicken', your comments encouraged me incredibly to Go For It. Passed the TEAS (barely), and entrance exam to my community college, start core classes in September. The competition is huge (in numbers, 450 for 40 slots) and I'll have to beat out the youngsters :)...just for a place in PN. Am bound and determined - can you boost my confidence again because the next phase only happens if I am in the top % of NLN test in December. They actually told me that it all depends on the NLN score. I'm awful in math. Any words of wisdom? NVR2LATE
I just passed Excelsior's NC 7 today. Next on to CPNE Yikes! Will be 50 in Oct so I am no spring chicken, but am determined. I will have a RN position where I have been working once I Pass CPNE. Go for it, study hard and you can do it! Seems easier when you are older, maybe have more time to study or more wisdom with age like fine wine. Let me know how things go.
Folks,
Mornin'! :typing With the extremely high competetion/entry at my community college for PN program, I've been dissecting this website for insight and input. Any opinions on online versus live campus learning? My school offers both, and orientation/registration is 9-10. Also, will the core Math 1012 class be enough to prepare me for my 12-31 NLN test? Admission to go further, into the actual PN in January, depends 99.9% on the results of NLN. I've been an MA and am licensed in CNA/PCT but have been transcribing from home for some major hospitals for a very long time now. I want this to happen! NVR2late
