  1. ...Or, you could go to any local bookstore chain. I bought mine at Barnes & Noble after checking it out for "2 week maximum" from the school library. BTW, has anyone heard of Rapid Learning Center (online) electronic tutoring courses for the pre-rec basics? It's between $100-200 bucks but seems like a valuable tool; especially for those of us Mathly and Sciencely Challenged nvr2late
  2. Have any of you on this thread been accepted to Chattahoochee Tech via your TEAS scores? I took the TEAS in June of this year and passed, but barely. I've taken many classes for certification programs at CTC such as CNA/PCT but have not worked as either. I'm a former MA, wanting to get into PN program. I haven't heard a word from CTC and this is not like them. In the interim, I'm starting classes elsewhere in September and have to take yet another biggee, the NLN, in December (I hear it's just like the TEAS?) NVR2late
  3. Folks, Mornin'! :typing With the extremely high competetion/entry at my community college for PN program, I've been dissecting this website for insight and input. Any opinions on online versus live campus learning? My school offers both, and orientation/registration is 9-10. Also, will the core Math 1012 class be enough to prepare me for my 12-31 NLN test? Admission to go further, into the actual PN in January, depends 99.9% on the results of NLN. I've been an MA and am licensed in CNA/PCT but have been transcribing from home for some major hospitals for a very long time now. I want this to happen! NVR2late
  4. Congrats and thx for encouraging words:yeah:nvr2late
  5. Well, I have a CNA license even though I only took the course to obtain the PCT. I never worked as either. So are you saying that there ARE 'basic nursing' questions, or strictly math and science, etc? You have been very helpful!!! I appreciate the input lots. NVR2late.
  6. It helped but I'm still frustrated as well. The "TEAS" was also geared to see your understanding of reading and language skills. The science blew my mind because much of it was earth science. I scored 100% on the 'human science' or 'medical science' portion.... 94% on the reading comprehension and 92% on the language skills. I know my math/algebra score brought down the final score - - - I don't remember how many questions, but I know I did awful in the math and great in the rest. What I really really need to know is: is this mostly academic knowledge (math/reading/comprehension/science) OR ARE THERE NURSING QUESTIONS INVOLVED? I am already exhausted before school even starts, just up all night worrying about this test. We have many applicants and not enough slots (450/40) and so only the highest scores from NLN will get in spring. Will the core Math 1012 class help me before the NLN? Is that class going to be relevant to this test? NVR2late
  7. since you all took the NLN, can you tell me what the actual test was like?...I've taken the TEAS and wonder if it's similar. I stink at math. I'm scheduled to take the NLN in December, but wonder the amount and depth of the math. Also can't quit the cigs until I know. Good luck to you all, and I'll be hoping someone will ANSWER me, because this is the first place on here I've seen the letters "NLN". NVR2late:eek:
  8. I took medical terminology and anatomy/physiology's classes at my community college as well, got my PCT, got my CNA, already have experience as an MA and cardiovascular tech. BUT my math is what concerns me on these tests. The rest of the classes you mention are on my curriculum for September. Will the Math 1012 help me on the next test ("LPN" math was similar?) What's your opinion of Kaplan now?
  9. We need good nurses, and I'm also feeling your pain with a 4.0 GPA, etc. Shame, shame on them. See your administration/director about this. Setting an example? Would be pointing out the good, not the nonsense. NVR2late
  10. At our vocational colleges, you first have to pass the typical '8th grade entrance exam' Asset/Compass/Act. That's a no-brainer. THEN, you have to pass either the TEAS or the NLN to get into the PN programs. I'm going to make the assumption that the NLN is similar to the TEAS, since no one out there seems to have taken the NLN (which is NLN-PAX) and is pre-NCLEX. Then, I have to 'hope' that my score is high enough to surpass the other applicants. I don't like the idea of lottos or wait lists, but we'll see. Thx for responding! NVR2late
  11. Congrats to both of you (above) to have 1) passed the entrance exams and 2) not sit around waiting for lotto admit policies. I have been desperately starting threads on this site to get insight about both of these questions!!! So it's PERFECT for me to as you two, 1) what was the entrance exam (NLN, TEAS, etc.) score requirements (ours is 85 or higher); and 2) paying dearly at a trade school...what's your opinion of the quality of instruction there opposed to vo-tech? NVR2late:banghead:
  12. nvr2late replied to OLIVIALEN's topic in LPN to RN
I can also relate to this subject! I was a CMA and ran the entire, huge cardiology/internal med practice for 4 docs, as 'the office nurse'...without the nurse pay scale. I think you gain lots of hands on patient (psych) and clinical skills; but I digress again, the NURSING MATH on the entrance test (NLN PN)...are you as concerned as I am about this? Anyone? NVR2LATE
  13. Hey, you go, people! This may be 'way off the thread'...however, am just a fledgling former MA whose math stinks to high heaven...who is also scared spitless about a test BEFORE the NCLEX...please empathize and answer me, all you great achievers with NCLX...the NLN admissions test happens for me in December (for PN). Anyone gone through this? I've taken TEAS but barely passed 3 mos. ago and my school only cares about the score of NLN. NVR2LATE
  14. Thx for your reply. My stepmother is a Nurse Practioner/RN originally from there. I, however, am from good ole' 'here' and am now going to ask...do you know anything about the NLN test itself (for admission to PN)?
  15. Does ANYONE know about the NLN test for admission to PN? I sure would like some response on that. It's one of the main reasons I joined this blog.....? I know surely someone knows something? NVR2LATE
