Need to Study NCLEX-PN based on "Exams Breakdown", and NOT "Organ Systems"

Published

I failed 2x on my NCLEX-PN and the note that came along with the 'NCLEX examination result' letter gave me a very important information about my strength and weakness in all areas of the test.

So, my strategy in studying NCLEX-PN become [almost] totally changed now, of course. The note shows me my performance on each content area (total of 8 areas): 1. Below, 2. Near, or 3. Above - the passing standard.

And these are the EXAMS BREAKDOWN:

* Safety and Infection Control [8-14%]

* Coordinated Care [11-17%]

* Reduction of Risk Potential [10-16%]

* Phychosocial Integrity [8-14%]

* Physiological Adaptation [12-18%]

* Pharmacological Therapies [9-15%]

* Basic care and Comfort [11-17%]

* Health Promotion & Maintenance [7-13%]

Oh yes, I am seriously looking for any NCLEX-PN books or QBanks which are sub-categorized based on the EXAMS BREAKDOWN, and NOT based on our Human Body Systems such as Integumentary, MSkeletal, Nervous, Digestive, Respiratory....etc.

I don't know where and how to buy this kind of books.

Would you please share?

Thank you in advance.

Well I am not sure on books but I used the ATI nyclex review online course to study. I had my own instructor that would tell me where to study after each practice test. I also had text books. The course was 150.00 but they have to stay with you till you pass your boards. They told me I had a 78% chance of passing and I did pass on 85 questions first time. I am not a great test taker at all and learn much better hands on. I also used the Saunders book. For me, answering as many practice questions is was really helped. Don't give up!

ATI nyclex review online course to study...

Dear Jean333,

Thanks for your response. You said that you used the ATI nyclex review online course to study, right? Well, I think for $150 [correct me if I'm wrong] for this kind of online course and stay until we passed...that's really a good deal.

Probably you have the web site or phone number to share of the online course?

Thanks a lot Jean. I do appreciate your help.

I am so sorry to here that, I would try looking online through barnes & Noble and other booksotres online and maybe they would have what you are looking for, I wish you luck and the best ok!!! keep us posted!!!

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. I have been in the middle of moving. Well I have good news and bad news. I do have the website: www.atitesting.com. But you see I found out that I got it for 150.00 because my school participated in buying study tools for each student so because of that I got a special rate. It is much more expensive if your school does not participate in it. Its 349.00. You can pay it over 3 payments but its still pretty steep. They do stay with you till you pass. I am sorry about the misleading information. I can tell you that I have never been a great test taker and the ATI's are really hard. They are harder than the NYCLEX exam but because they were so hard it did help me. I also used the Saunders book and CD from that. Just don't give up :) I heard about a person that passed the NYCLEX on their 7th try.

handyman, sorry to hear about your situation.

i think eri world has their pn review in these category. check out their website for more information @ www.eriworld.com they also have a book (course manual), not sure how you can get that though, but it won't hurt to call them if you have further questions or concerns. in addition to eri, i would highly recommend the saunders comprehensive cd (1-4160-0052-6), and exam cram pn (isbn: 0-7897-3267-x). the saunders q&a (isbn: 1-4160-2912-5) also have the book separated in the categories you mentioned. but, please remember the nclex-pn exam is not divided up into separate content areas. it tests integrated nursing content.

also, i think you should know some test taking strategies. as you know, some of those nclex answer choices are tricky, so having a good test taking strategy will help whenever you feel you need to make an educated guess. best of luck to you, don't despair, you can do it!

Hi Jean, my school had the ATI testing incorporated in their curriculum. I didn't think those tests were good--just my opinion. They were suppose to determine how well you would perform on the nclex exam. It was interesting that the school also had NLN Nclex-PN diagnostic test at the end of the program. I did very well on that. The NLN diagnostic test is designed to show how well a student will perform on the really thing. There were no special books to study from for the NLN, all you needed to know was all the nursing content you have been taught for the past 11 months, as the test is all integrated.

The ATI books to me is design for only the ATI tests. I didn't think the test were really hard, I had problems applying what I already knew about nursing content to the ATI exams. There were a few questions that would apply to what you already knew but to really pass ATI, you must read their books to pass, as their questions/answers are straight from the ATI book, which for me was a bit of a struggle, as I was more focused on passing the class, reading the required textbks and didn't really have time to look at the ATI books, but then again, to be able to sit in the next nursing course ATI was used to determine that and the books were really thick, mostly written in outline formats. Oh well, needless to say I didn't touch the ATI books nor their practice online questions while reviewing for my nclex exam, like you, I used the Saunders CD to prepare, and thank God it worked out.

Google Peterson online test and select NCLEX PN practice test. This was very similar to the NCLEX PN. The cost is 24.95. I think this could really help you. Their are three 180 questions and it gives good rationals after you finish taking them. My classmates took this test and a majority of them had 85 questions.

Hi Lucy,

I think it was taking all their tests that helped me. It just helped me learn to be a better test taker. I did use Saunders too and that was very good. I know everyone thus far in my class that took the course in my class has passed but that may not be because of the ATI'S. Our teacher was really tough and never let up...lol...at the time I thought I would never make it but as I look back I am so grateful she made it so hard :) There are so many books out there. I have also heard the Kaplan is great too. I think using a variety of tools to study from is the way to go.
